Also even though I wasn't that familiar with Dynasty Wars in the arcade, the port isn't good either.

It's missing half of the levels, lots of gameplay features and if you have played it, you know it plays like a big pile of turd.

Its way worse than Final Fight as Capcom brawlers go on Amiga. For some reason it seems most people never even played this Amiga game.. which is for the better, it's really freaking awful. Outrun is not as bad as this, and this says a lot.

An arcade Longplay takes from 35 to 45 minutes. Amiga version will take less than 15 minutes to beat. That's how much of the game is cut.

And what is left is beyond terrible.

I think it's only 16 colors.

Thanks for all the posts so far. But nominating games like Power Drift and Altered Beast? I agree they weren't great conversions, but they are far from the worst.

jotd 03 February 2019 10:54

The worst conversions are the ones that weren't made :) (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=96123)

Thunder Blade for me. I played the Arcade game and I was blown away by it. Then I got the Amiga version...

Screw you Tiertex. I know you're still out there, making mobile games.

Hewitson 05 February 2019 02:13

Yes Thunder Blade was a pile of shit. Like with Power Drift, the C64 version is far superior.

jotd, I beg to differ. So many of the conversions were so bad that we'd be better off without them.

I believe they finally bite the dust a couple of years ago. Their site had nothing about games anymore, it was about... refrigerator pieces or something like that, and for a while their site is down.

*sigh*. I want to say good but it meant some people lost their jobs so it really isn't...

ruinashiro 05 February 2019 10:03

Forgotten Worlds, Thunder Blade and Strider for me.

gimbal 05 February 2019 10:44

Strider is conflicting to me. It's a bad Amiga game, it's a severely stripped port... but I saw a version comparison video and the Amiga version really was not so bad compared to other ports.

Coagulus 05 February 2019 15:20

Stun Runner was pretty bad too. But much better than the speccy version at least.

john4p 05 February 2019 16:45

Street Fighter II

Mark36 05 February 2019 16:59

Double dragon was poor. I can only think of a few conversion that lived up to the original arcade like R-Type and Rainbow Islands Paper Boy Buggy Boy.

Again, a crap conversion, but nowhere near the worst.

saimon69 10 February 2019 04:21

Well about bad conversions i am kinda conflicted because i know there was a lot of crappy jobs - especially by a certain company that starts with T, however i can mention the ones i felt most disappointed from:
- Outrun (and no, the darn opening screen and its flashy music did not help)
- Chase HQ (what happened to it after the rumors that it should have used Batman driving scene engine?)
- Black Tiger (acceptable as graphics but they messed up the engine very badly)
- Strider (was expecting a megadrive level port, even without parallax)
- Hard Drivin' (could have been done better, used to compare it to the Driving scene in Beverly Hills Cop Amiga game, and that one has a better frame rate)
- Shinobi (this is easily the most disappointing: original was VERY portable arcade perfect on Amiga)

Bonus for a NON crappy conversion: R-Type, but was because i expected here an almost arcade perfect full PAL screen 25fps port too (btw this added fuel to the creation of Powder)

They were not allowed to miss the conversion. Katakis was already available ;)

Outrun is a mystery across the board, was there some kind of deal back then to make all home computer versions far more poor than they needed to be? It is so unnecessarily bad that it seems intentional.

Something repeated with Turbo Outrun :/

Minuous 11 February 2019 18:39

Xain d'Sleena aka Soldier of Light isn't nearly as close to the coin-op as I had hoped.

Pac-Land scrolling is awful.

Also they couldn't make it "better" than the master system perhaps?

I don't think this would have been the reason, as Sega did not do the conversion.

Kenshigros 12 February 2019 22:29

Wouldn’t you agree?

In my memory the worst conversions were TIERTEX’s
I even remember the feeling knowing that Tiertex were about to be the house to make the next game conversion it made me puke
Sorry to say but it did give me disappointment because of it
I hope you agree but perhaps there are exceptions out there....
One of the best in graphic/sound and animation was Commando (extra memory needed) if I remember correctly

Well
What do you think ?

Cheers

Alex
