Except that the beast 2 gameover music, the sweet electric guitar is lifted straight from an episode of miami vice. I cannot find the video comparison on youtube unfortunately.

Sorry about the ripoff term. I m nota an native english speaker.
I love the work of shamen AND Patrick Phelan, lotus 3 tunes are excllent (game is not so good)

About pengo it WAS a ... hommage, but popcorn copyright holders did not seem to like that. I read that on a wiki, but maybe it was bullshit since I cant find it again.

Copyright holders are full of shit and usually would pull stuff off like that. The fact is, covers are not illegal, intellectual property owners still get composing rights for them. But back then and on a videogame I am sure laws were a bit "grey area" and this claim is probably unsubstantiated. If there was indeed such a claim, I am sure it was about how to collect reproduction rights like if it was a record.

About Conan the destroyer, it's just a few notes but Golden Axe music is very similar:

1:17:40 after Arnolds says "well done Akiro"

Given the theme of the movie AND the game, it cannot be a coïncidence.

Orcish75 12 March 2016 20:57

Not the music, but most of the SFX samples in Barbarian were ripped straight from Red Sonja.

Interesting thread :) I actually have seen something like that some time ago, it was case where some musicians pop star where using mods from commodore demos. Like whole parts from demos were reused + they add they own lyrics.

ThAt was a rip-off, there are many cases documented, like Timbaland stealing GRG's version of Tempest's Acid Jazzed Evening and making it into a Nelly Furtado song. That's a completely different topic.

Matt Gray also "borrowed" some Tangerine Dream tunes for his Last Ninja 2 soundtrack.

listen to cabal intro (ocean parallax) and compare to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3BfHES7wNA (Joue pas avec moi) :)

listen to Lotus 2 "Twilight" intro (level 2) and Depeche mode "waiting for the night to fall" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyrpRzdvp5U

Yes for Cabal I pin pointed this a long time ago

One thing I noticed recently is the sub scene in Sink or Swim.

(Starts 01:42)

The beat sounds suspiciously like the one in Helix' Heavy Metal Love.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, idk

Oh and Captain Blood features parts of Ethnicolor by Jarre.
Now I just need to figure out how to play the game.. :laughing

Well this is because Jarre was indeed the composer that did the music for Captain Blood of course ;)

More than did relicensed; looking at the sound in the files with audiomaster was one of those long samples with loop mapping
