I have one of those generic SCART to HDMI adapters, and the picture quality's not great and it has lots of lag - you can feel it just by moving the mouse around the desktop.

I'd recommend a Retrotink 2X SCART - it's a little more expensive, but still far cheaper than an OSSC.

I use a different Retrotink with video adapter that I hacked together, but the technology is the same. It does a great job in my experience - no lag at all and a great picture.

@Arnie why not forget HDMI and go for a CRT and play the CDTV it all its 240p glory?

simonhez 10 October 2020 22:12

not everyone still has the proper CRTs laying around + it's space consuming

lesta_smsc 10 October 2020 22:14

It is space consuming but nothing beats it. Plenty of these sets available and cheaper than high end SCART to HDMI adaptors.

jotd 10 October 2020 23:30

A lot of flat TV screens still have SCART too. But it tends to disappear, so converters are the only viable option

lesta_smsc 10 October 2020 23:47

CRT on anything but CRT is really poor quality.

I've got 3 CRTs and even between them the clarity is noticeable but if I then played on my LES it looks so undesirable and off putting lol

What simonhez.

I went ahead and bought the Flylink, (it came with a power supply) :great

I haven't tested it yet as I need to do some work on the CDTV.

I'll post here when I get everything up and running.

Great [emoji106]

Looking forward to your reviews on it.

At present I'm looking for 15khz compatible monitors as I've heard they display Amiga very nicely!

Update:

Hooked it up to the CDTV and TV and it worked first time.
Very good picture, no lag noticed. I'm using the 1280x1024 60hz setting.

If you want no hassle connecting an Amiga to TV via hdmi then this converter is one of the one's to consider.

lesta_smsc 16 October 2020 22:18

Great news! Always wondered whether upscale cause pixelation. Any pics?

sittingduck 16 October 2020 23:26

Do any of you guys that have the same kind of adapter as Arnie have any insight into whether the adapter gives a better image (or less lag) than using the built in scart sockets on an lcd tv? (I have an older LG tv that has scart input).

I have tried the SCART input on my LED TV and found the resolution to be extremely poor but never really noticed lag.

I bought a Flylink from Amazon yesterday and it came today (didn't choose next day delivery!).

Seems to work fine.

This is for my A4000 with CyberVision 64/3D. I don't have a scan doubler so this is for emergencies.
I don't use this for games.

Jope 19 October 2020 08:33

Perfect for emergencies, but not so nice for games due to the forced interlace.

lesta_smsc 19 October 2020 09:09

Just had a thought given the price of these. Is it not possibly cheaper to use a 15khz monitor instead? I'm on the lookout for one and if its cheap enough I'm buying that so I can just plug in the Amiga and anything else needing 15khz.

Was just about to order one - is it the adapter, that you think is good for emergencies or is it the scart sockets on TVs? In my case the HDMI adapter is pretty much only to be used for multiplayer SWOS, Dynablaster, Super Cars 2 and Lotus games. If it's not really suitable for this I might just go the emulation road instead.

The scart socket behind the TV might be better than the HDMI converters listed here. At least I have occasionally had pretty nice results with many flatscreen TV scarts and the Amiga.

Well, it will display them all. Animation will be 25fps or 30fps.. Playability in SWOS and Dynablaster might suffer, as those are quite twitchy games sometimes. SC2 and Lotuses probably won't hurt as much..

But the Amiga is capable of butter smooth updates on every output frame.. My personal standards are higher than what the cheap converters provide. I purchased one of those boxes available from Amazon and unfortunately it is now collecting dust on my shelf, potentially it will get some use in the future, but not necessarily Amiga use.. Basically it is only useful to me for sources that output an interlaced signal.

lesta_smsc 28 October 2020 21:41

@Arnie what's picture quality like? I'm using RGB to VGA adaptor for my Amiga 500 on 19" LCD monitor and it's not great. The resolution seems more blocky as though it requires filter to smooth edges. Maybe that's what you get with crisp image?!

Arnie 29 October 2020 19:42

Just finishing off putting the CDTV together. Then I need to find the HXC floppy and load a few games for screenshots.
