Massive congratulations on successfully starting this initiative. I hope that it comes to fruition!

This was the first thought that came into my head....

congratulations from France for your great job!

Can it be made to work on the MUCH MORE COMMON A1200?

OlaHughson 23 May 2012 15:06

Will it ever be open sourced? Pretty, pretty please!
That would be awesome, if someone created an open hardware accelerator for an Amiga! You could be the first people ever to do it!
And then, other enthusiasts would modify it to suit other Amiga models!
Who knows, maybe someone will make a frankenA600 with PPC and OS4 ;o DO WANT!
So, please, please, after You sell some, release schematuics to the public. For the good of whole Amiga community. I will be grateful.

What were Frances/Lucas etc. then?

Then build it.
In time I really want to, but for now I have something else taking up any project time I can muster. It's exciting to see Gideon and friends doing one. I'd heard that someone (e3b?) wanted to do an accelerator a while back but hit a wall regarding OS support/porting and dropped it. Maybe Gideon's project is this one, and they've sorted out the OS stuff? Regardless, it indicates that it's possible to do such a thing today, which is really good news!

Hmm, so I might be wrong? Maybe.
Then explain! Because I don't know about these.

Our press release of May 22nd, 2012: AMIGA MEETS GIGAHERTZ

Gideon Zweijtzer (of 1541-Ultimate fame) and Rutger Bevaart have teamed up to bring renewed innovation to the Classical Amiga by announcing the UltimatePPC today, the ultimate CPU expansion card for the Amiga 3000 & 4000. This new card will bring unparalleled performance and many great new features to the Amiga series of computers that were not available previously and give current users a viable upgrade path for aging components. It also opens new possibilities for newer versions of the Amiga Operating System or alternatives to run on your classic hardware with great performance. The UltimatePPC puts your Amiga right back on your desk as the most versatile and fun computer that has ever existed!
Right now the UltimatePPC is in active development, we expect to be able to take pre-orders at the end of 2012. Please visit our project website at http://ultimateppc.nl for availability information, specifications and detailed status reports.

That explains why development has been somewhat slow lately for the 1541U-II ;)

DDNI 23 May 2012 16:37

;)

AmigaFriend 23 May 2012 16:46

This is awesome news! I think I've never have been so excited for a new piece of Amiga hardware for the A4000.

GideonZ congratulations on the effort in this new project! I'll be looking forward when the board is available to order. :)

jbenam 23 May 2012 21:06

Please, can you do a model for A1200 too? PRETTY PLEASE? :bowdown

Otherwise I'll need to get an A4000D at all costs :D

I'm so psyched about this... It's awesome! I just hope that it won't cost an arm and a leg ;)

I also see a lot of software effort on our path.

If you are in a situation where you consider your hardware "usable" and "beta" enough to have some software people look into it: I would strongly recommend to get in touch with DarrenHD (http://www.hd-zone.com). Really! Do it! ;-)

Threads merged, which explains some of the similar posts above. ;)

DonAmiga 24 May 2012 00:33

Congratulations great news indeed :great look forward to buying one:D

Plaz 24 May 2012 02:37

I'd love to have one of these (or two). I'm feeling the urge to code a driver for the first time in like 10 years. :) Good luck guys.

Wow, I've lurked so long without posting my account was purged....

Great stuff, if only it had a 060 instead of the 040...we'd have the best of both worlds, 68k and PPC.

Would be a dream having both on one card!

True ... an '060 would be better, but I'm not sure as to their availability, and maybe that's the problem for the guyz.

Not to put too much of a dampener on things ...

I'd also like to know what sort of price tag these suckers are going to cost ?

Anyone any idea of the intended price?

Not seen any reply to the earlier question about if an A1200 version is planned, as I'd sure be interested in one, especially if it's OS4 PPC compliant, and has a pass-thru for a Mediator card, and offers a solution to some PCI cards, like the Soundblaster and Spider PCI cards being 'thwarted' from being used due to DMA and other limitations on the A1200 processor data port. :great

Hey it's a step forward, and I'd buy one for my A4000 as long as it doesn't mean trading in a kidney or arm & a leg for one. :crazy

José 24 May 2012 03:36

What putting the 040 in a socket for 060 upgradability ?

Good luck with it, didn't I sell you a WarpEngine some years ago ?:)

asymetrix 24 May 2012 05:02

fantastic

This is great news !

Good luck to the developers involved.

Please dont over complicate this project.

Personally I would have :

Base no frills PPC motherboard, 1 GHZ, DDR3, PCI-e slots, mouse,kb.

Make base simplest possible so its dirt cheap to produce.

Then add everything extra as cards to fit in.

FPGA /68k + OCS chipset on a card

USB, ethernet ports on a card

If we have fixed specs on our cards and make drivers for them then other projects can reuse same cards and drivers for new systems.

Open source RTG drivers

The closest thing to open source GFX card could be getting data sheet for the Adreno 220 GPU, as used in qualcomm Snapdragon Arm processor.
