Workbench v2.1 rev 38.36 (1992)(Commodore)(M10)(Disk 2 of 5)(Workbench).adf $48589399

Thanks TCD!

Are there any CRCs32 listed for images with the TOSEC [!] flag, please?

Well in the latest TOSEC Dat are only these two for the rev 38.36. The other ones have a [m] tag for being modified. So I would say these are the [!] ones, but I can't confirm it for sure.

Edit : For future reference I've attached the latest TOSEC Workbench dat :)

Thanks for looking. The problem is that neither Redwood's set nor mine have been written to from new, and yet these two disks in each set are different, not only from the corresponding disks in the other set, but also from the disks listed on TOSEC.

BTW, is it possible for anyone to browse the TOSEC database?

Yes, even for you ;) Look at the edit in my last post :)

Thanks mate! :great

I opened this .dat file in WordPad in order to browse it. Is there a better, or even a recommended, application for viewing these files?

TCD 06 February 2009 01:28

For now WordPad (or any other text viewer/editor) have to do when you want to check CRC32 values or the like. DemonHellraiser made an Access Database of the ADF games dat and maybe he could do the same with the Workbench dat :) Also PandMonium has some tools to view/check the dat files, but he hasn't shared them (yet ;)).

prowler 06 February 2009 01:56

Here are the CRC32 checksums of the ADF images dumped from my Workbench 2.04 and 2.05 disk sets.

Amiga OS 2.04 (version 37.67):
WORKBENCH 2.04 - $57714D34 (P/N 367813-01)
EXTRAS 2.04 - $A019B6B9 (P/N 367824-01)
FONTS 2.04 - $2F88C0F6 (P/N 367825-01)

Amiga OS 2.05 International (version 37.71):
SCSI INSTALL DISK 2.05 - $C285C0AA (P/N 367826-03)
WORKBENCH 2.05 - $F8D3D145 (P/N 367813-03)
EXTRAS 2.05 - $80B91A94 (P/N 367824-04)
FONTS 2.05 - $1042D12F (P/N 367825-03)

I have colour-coded these checksums orange, because I did not purchase them new, so I cannot be certain they are unmodified.

As usual, it would be great to get some confirmation of these.

Supamax 06 February 2009 17:38

Hello mates,
thank you all for your contribution :).

I'll update the list ASAP, just been a bit busy :(

EDIT: I added the CRC32 of my "PRIMI PASSI" original disk. I don't know the P/N, because it's not written on the label...

Marcuz 06 February 2009 18:53

i cannot check the CRC from my disks, and it would be not needed anyway, as most of them had data saved on them at some point, but:

my copy of "Primi Passi" has this part number: 380921-04;

Workbench 1.3.2 rev 34.28 (ita) has p.n.: 317797-03
Extras 1.3 Basic 1.2 (international) has p.n.: 317788-01

my whole set of Workbench 3.0 has instead the same p.n. as the prowler' one.

maybe the stuff above in this post is not useful, but if needed i will try to check the disks with catwease.

Confirming that the disks I got new in a ks2 upgrade package for A500 match those part numbers and check out the same as yours. In addition there is:

INSTALL 2.04 - $74F4F26B (P/N 367826-02)

I'm pretty sure they've not been modified, but its hard to be certain. Since you have the same checksums it seems fairly likely but I suppose some automatic modification could end up the same..

The Workbench 3.0 disks that were included with my A1200 also match yours in part numbers as well as checksums, but you were already certain of them.

When I first got me an A500 here in Finland, the disks included were Workbench 317796-01, Extras 317788-01 and The Very First 380921-02.
I'm almost certain the first two have been modified so I'm not listing them here, but I don't see why I would have touched The Very First. It currently checks out at $1AB58E91. No guarantees though, since I wasn't very careful at that time.

Hi Marco, is the P/N written on your "Primi Passi" disk label? Italian version, I suppose :)
If so, it's strange... Mine has a cyan color, Italian, and no P/N written on it...:confused

Hey, are you kidding?! :)

Which information would you get by doing so?

Hi Marco,

I'm sure Supamax would say that all contributions to this thread are useful (especially the Italian stuff! ;)). It all helps to increase the confidence we can have in the data.

If you could, it would be great to have the checksums of those disks dumped with your Catweasel too.

Thanks,

prowler

Hi Rixa,

Thanks for your contribution, mate!

I also have The Very First disk. Strictly speaking, it's not a Workbench disk, but I'll check mine and see if it gives the same checksum.

BTW, due to the nature of the data being gathered on this thread and the way that the certainty is being categorized, it would be useful if you could check those included Workbench and Extras disks anyway.

Hi prowler,
you are right about "Primi Passi"/"The Very First"/.., it's not part of the Workbench set.
Should I not consider it in (delete from) the list?
I don't even know if it came out after/along with WB 1.2 or 1.3 ... but I suspect it was 1.3.

My original "Primi Passi" disk was probably given to me by a friend of mine named Carlo. I don't remember it (if it was really him who gave me that disk), incredible... 20 years have passed yet :(

Ah, now I know what "Primi Passi" means. ;) (I was afraid to ask!)

IFAIK, The Very First was part of the software 'bundle' that originally came with a new A500 (the other parts being the Workbench and Extras disks). It is an interactive tutorial program which teaches new users the features of and how to use the Amiga hardware and software.

It's probably worth including here, as it's such an important disk. And it will be interesting to see how many languages were produced.

Back in the days when I first heard of "The Very First", I thought it was Commodore-speak for Workbench 1.0! :crazy

@ prowler

Thanks for the WB 3.0 CRC's :).
Can your v39.29 be listed as International?

About the various "Primi Passi/The Very First/etc." releases, I always saw them with a 1987 date on the label... so it's probably 1.2 *minimum* but almost surely 1.3. For example, when I bought my A500 here in Italy (one of the very first sold here, with U.S. keyboard and the round label "U.S." on the space key) it was not included. I remember now: I found in the package 2 disks: WB 1.2 and EXTRAS/BASIC 1.2. :)

Hi Supamax,

My WB 3.0 disks are not marked as "International" or anything else, but perhaps by this time it they were understood to be the International version unless marked otherwise. (My 2.05 disks are the latest to be marked "International".)

I'll dig my "The Very First" disk out tomorrow and see what's on the label.
Incidentally, I uploaded this disk to The Zone at one time and it is now available on Magix's FTP in "The Zone!" subfolder if anyone would like a copy. :) Filename: "The Very First.zip".

Ok, then... International! :great

Hi prowler,
is the above disk branded by Commodore, with a commercial label? Or was it prepared by a shop/reseller/etc.?

Thanks :D

Supamax 07 February 2009 04:41

Hi boys :),
I updated the list (including TOSEC [!]-only data from the attached file by TCD) and slightly modified the Legenda ;).
