Any chance of an Alternate Reality IPF?

edit: I've re-written my disk with the eADF on EAB FTP. Does it count as an authentic image or do I need an IPF?

Why did you overwrite your original disk, if it was an original disk, as you've destroyed the original data!!

You now have a copy from an non authenticated image so from a preservation standpoint your original disk is not original anymore and won't be accepted by SPS!!

I bought the game about 6 months ago and it was sold as working. When I received it I immediately made an SCP of it with a Greaseweazle. I still have that image. Unfortunately, the disk was corrupted and didn't pass it's own GCR protection. Furthermore the disk liner then came loose and the disk was ruined.
There is no SPS authorised image of this game, only an Atari ST version.
WinUAE has been updated to allow an IPF of this game. So where is it? Super Methane Bros has been done to this groups satisfaction but not Alternate Reality - also with GCR. What happened?

We need to get a working raw dump of the original. If we can get that, I would be more than happy to add support for it to disk-analyse to create the IPF.

Great news. The original scp I have only works in an emulator as an HFE which has probably smoothed out some read density related static. I don't know if it's correctable?

In circulation is AmigaLove's blog on the subject. https://www.amigalove.com/viewtopic....p=14983#p14983

Can you zone the SCP you have, so I can take a look at the protection code? I am in the process of finishing Dragon's Lair and Vortex, but will get to it after these are complete.

As a new EAB member I don't have access to The Zone here only FTP downloads. Here's a onedrive link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhcDodhmD2NVwxND...zSRvG?e=SUv7Cc

I have a kryoflux dump of this game as well from one of my contributors.

Nice! Curious to see if it'll handle my Dragon's Lair RAW images that might have errors.

I would appreciate it if you would upload it to the zone as well. I am pretty sure the scp file that Snoopy1234 provided has the protection track intact . Would be nice to have another dump to verify. I guess both scp and ctraw support in winuae are lacking support for GCR tracks, which is why dumps with GCR protection fail in WinUAE

I was able to create a working IPF, but before uploading, it I want to verify that my decoder is correct.

dlfrsilver 18 July 2022 05:27

Ok, i can upload the dump in the zone :)

dlfsilver - Thanks for uploading to the Zone. I can confirm that the raw files converted to SCP work on disk in a real Amiga. The CTRAW file loads in WinUAE but still asks for the Original disk so GCR not working there.

Hi there Snoopy1234,
I did notice these other Alternate Reality files in the zone dated 2018. Saw them the same day from our last discussion.

Cheers

CTraw files cannot contain GCR :/ only 2us bitcells tracks.

Hi stevsurv Thanks, I did try using the Kyroflux GCR tracks from those files to include in the SCP I had of my copy and couldn't make it work. I later as stated earlier wrote the eADF but it seems any ADF isn't really authentic. An IPF would have been preferable and will be interesting to see where this thread leads. Thanks to dlfsilver I have re-written my disk w/ Zoned files and that's working. Much to learn about it all.:agree
