Welcome aboard Dan/Anarchy.:D

vulture 02 March 2016 20:40

@Dan

It's already in the list Dan and welcome to the boards! :)

DanScott 02 March 2016 21:32

Haha :D I am sure I didn't see it on the list... my optician was right ;)

Thanks for the welcome, been reading on this board for years, but decided finally to sign up...

Would you mind if I open a thread about your games where you may share some of the details/memories about them? I, for one, would find it very interesting! :)

I don't see why not :) Have to admit, that my memory is not as good as it used to be.. it's nigh on 25 years since my first game was commercially released.

vulture 03 March 2016 09:00

Well, it's open!

Moved Mega Typhoon to the full 50fps section from the mixed one. You see, in game, the vertical scrolling registers as 25 fps, but everything is moving inside the screen at 50 fps, ditto for horizontal scrolling, it's 50 fps when the ship moves from left to right. Now, what's more interesting, at the end of level boss, where the game speeds up, vertical scrolling is a steady 50 fps as well. So, the earlier lower refresh seems to be just a design decision to slow scrolling speed down.

Asman 19 October 2016 19:11

What about Stardust ? As I checked I see green color on left border on first level (everywhere where are the rocks). Is this mean that Stardust is 25fps game ? Can someone confirm/enlight me. Thanks

vulture 19 October 2016 19:35

If it's green, it's 50fps, yellow is for 25fps. So, should I add it to the list?

Asman 19 October 2016 20:14

Are you sure ? As I remember grey is for 50fps or I missing something ?

If this game is 50fps then I really don't know how the author achieve such result, especially when timer down to zero and on screen I see at least 33 objects (non sprites) on 5bpl screen.

vulture 20 October 2016 07:50

@Asman

Yes, you're correct, of course, grey is for 50, green is for 25. Been quite some time since I've checked games for that. I'll give it a look though and I'll check super stardust as well.

But, do you think it's undoable to have that number of objects at 50 fps in a static screen?
btw Mega Typhoon is a 50 fps game after all, I just saw your comment about it while I browsed the back pages of the thread. Only vertical scrolling is 25. Horizontal scrolling and vertical during boss sequences is a steady 50 fps.

Thats the question which answer I want to know too :)

Asman 24 October 2016 21:02

@vulture
Just for info. Tunnel sequence is 50fps. Special mission with that amazing background works 50/25fps and depends how many foreground elements are animated.

So It seems that main game is 25fps, because no one can confirm that is 50fps :)

vulture 25 October 2016 09:17

Pretty good that the tunnel sequence is 50! I may take a look at it tonight and report back!

vulture 14 November 2016 11:23

As Asman said, stardust is 25 for the main gameplay and full 50 for the tunnel and bonus stages. Also, it retains its relative rate under ntsc (30/60), added it to the mixed section. Gonna check super stardust at some point and report back.

EDIT:

Super Stardust works the very same way, 25/30 for main levels, full 50/60 for bonus and tunnels, added to the mixed section as well.

Asman 15 November 2016 10:57

@vulture
Thanks a lot for checking Super Stardust.

What about Toki, I don't see this on list ?

From memory Toki is 25fps. The parallax is blitted each frame so would struggle to be 50fps.

vulture 15 November 2016 19:24

Yes, Toki was tested and it's 25 fps

vulture 12 March 2017 02:21

Added newly released Standard Deviation. It's a full 50 fps game, scrolls @50, player ship, enemies and their bullets move at 50 as well, which is great as there's parallax and many objects on screen most of the time. Works on NTSC , but at some points where many bullets are on screen there are slow downs, hence no (N) indicator. I'll have to measure the game area and see if it's good for a full screen indicator as there's that score/status panel at the bottom. A very good shooter in my opinion, I like its style. Could be more polished of course, but it is nice as it is and I like the speedy tunnel sequences too!
