Interesting reading! I was fascinated to see Jungle Strike there given Hall of Light suggests there's no AGA version per se, only an "Enhanced ECS version" for 2MB machines.

So I did some experimenting, here's what I found:
- Attempted to run IPFs on WinUAE using A600+2MB settings, immediately crashes
- Same test, A1200, with chipset manually overridden to Full ECS. Mostly seems to work fine EXCEPT there's no title screen, it's blank. Ocean/Hyperial logo show, as does the cutscene following the title screen.

It seems, from a glance, the title screen is 4 bitplane/4 bitplane dual playfield - which is an AGA only feature.

This is what it looks like when it's broken down into foreground and background layers.

Yeah same findings i had, just looks like AGA title screen, OCS in-game but with a slightly bigger playfield

I've added the first revision of my CD32/CDTV disc making guide, it's in my shared mega folder for those wanting to make their own discs.

Hi Justin

Im a great fan of your compilation discs for both CD32 and CDTV.
Thanks for all the work you've done on these.

Following your excellent disc making guide, I had a go at making my own, but always seem to get stuck on the game loading part.
I follow all the guide examples, and got the CDTV "croak" example working on my CDTV.

I tried a compilation disc using some adfs, and an AGS multi-game compilation but they do not load.

I tried even to duplicate one of your CDTV compilations, and substitute the games for different ones and it still failed (I got to a black screen with a red arrow mouse cursor, but no further)

do the amiga games have to be in a certain format - eg .adf or .slave files
Any help you can advise would be really appreciated.
thanks
Simon

Hi Simon, i need more information on what type of disc you are trying to make, is it a CD32 disc? AGS is only for CD32 for example.

Yes, you won’t get them working that way, the CDTV menu is coded, you need to hex edit the menu file and adjust the disc name, that was a chapter i will write up for another time.

Can be in any if the example i tried to show in the guide, but don’t forget not every game will work being loaded from disc, so try other games in the same format if one fails to load.

trolleymaster 09 July 2020 15:52

thanks for getting back so quick !

It was CDTV discs I was trying to create.
I've tried multiple adf games, but can't seem to get any to load.
Its not the end of the world, but I would like to do some compilations to see if I can !

Yeah AGS is CD32 only thats why that one didn’t load on a CDTV. From memory i’m pretty sure the adf loader is not CDTV compatible, as well as whdload not being compatible, KS1.3 really was naff in comparison to KS2.0+!

You need to either extract a ADF file via Directory Opus and assign it to a startup-sequence, or get a HDD install for game that doesn’t use very much memory!

trolleymaster 09 July 2020 16:16

Great !
I'll give it a try

PS - I do have the extended roms (u14/U15) with kickstart 3 and 8mb ram upgrade

From memory i think that was a completion cdxl video, but no i'm sure you don't need those or the cd audio and it will still play ok.
