So I'm after a bit of help / constructive criticism on the Super Sprint UI.
As way of an update the game now supports 4 players by interfacing with any of the following ports/controllers:
Now on to the main question, the arcade game supported 3 players, I want the Amiga version to support 4. When I've added some of the 4th player options into the UI I just feel it doesn't look right. If anyone has ideas of a better way then let me know. The Green (4th) car must be shown on the track select, upgrade car and prepare to race (4 car images) scenes - it does not have to be shown on the Title page or Hiscore. What do you think? Shall I leave the Green car text on the Title and Hiscore scenes or remove them? Screen shots attached. |
Nice work Graeme, What about having the player text in each corner, colour matching the car positions in the last image of all cars (blue top left text, yellow top right, red bottom left, green bottom right)
|
No constructive criticism here only praise, looks absolutely fantastic. Great work again mcgeezer.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood your question.
Doesn't the "Push Button" text for all screens fit for all 4 cars in the top area ? Smaller gaps between the text ? Or smaller text ? |

4 corners is a good shout... i do have an extra 16 pixels i can make use of as interlace mode supports 400 pixels and i’m only using 384. |

I think that is a good idea. If that is not an option I think the green text should be in two lines like the others and remove them from the high-score screen to not overlap the other text. Is it not possible to make the fonts smaller to fit them all on top? All the same it is looking great :D |
Nice update here as I've added support for 4 players in the game.
Also - if you watch the video listen out for the CD32 question. https://youtu.be/ZWvwaya0_No Geezer |
Count me in for the CD32.

I did a bit more polishing on the game including fixing up the Winners Circle scene - although there is an odd bug when the score doesn't update.
But I found and fixed what appears to be a major bug with the interlacing, I had somehow screwed up the long frames sync. I only actually noticed this by running it on my real A1200, the title screen was showing crystal clear but other screens were not which was really odd. When I fixed the bug and tried it again on real hardware I was gobsmacked as to how good the game looked, so much so that i still can't quite believe it so I encourage you to try it for yourself if you have real hardware. This footage was taken on my iPhone and is showing my A1200 attached via Scart to an LG 27" TV. https://youtu.be/BpXErIcYaNY Please do try it for yourself and post your results. https://www.amigagamedev.com/Downloa...print_EAB5.adf * Apologies the SSL cert has expired on my server and at the moment I can't be arse to pay £25 to get it renewed, I might do it this weekend. It will really help if people can feed back to me what it looks like on their 1084 monitors. I'm still in a little disbelief how good it looks on my LG LCD. It's like I can't even see any interlacing affect - I'm wondering would the SCART be helping with this. |

As far as I'm aware - SCART on a modern LCD just de-interlaces and you lose the shimmer. Works like this on my TV!
|
All digital screens are progressive so they convert the interlaced signal. Looks real good!! I will try the game on my CRT now.
|
Wow - i did not know this about modern lcd screens so i am well happy!!!
|
frankly if using a LCD fixes the flicker like this screw the 1084 let's remain in the 21st century!
|
If you don't mind the input lag that is.
I hooked up my A500 via RGB scart to my TV a few years back and the input lag was just horrible. |
I made a video. My video camera can not capture the CRT screen. It is not flickering anything near as much. I can see you fixed this bug that used to be. Looking good now :)
