Hello there,

Anyone tried installing NetBSD/Amiga on a WinUAE system ?

Is it possible ? Does it work ?

No as I don't think winuae emulates MMU

NetBSD won't run on WinUAE as it needs a CPU with an MMU (Memory Management Unit), as do all Unixes.

There is a patch on the main UAE site for MMU support against UAE 0.8.20. If you're brave and are prepared to compile WinUAE you could try patching it in. The patch claims to have allowed the author to run m68k Linux under UAE.

It would be nice to see this patched in some time (if it's good enough quality) as then getting AMIX (AmigaUNIX) running under UAE would be possible (maybe).

uClinux got ports for 68K, but the last update of the Amiga port was some years ago But that is/was running without MMU, even on a standart A500

Question NetBSD with A1200/040

..And how about NetBSD 1.6.2 on real A1200? I would like to try it on my system, but the installation procedure seems quite tricky and I wonder if it is worth it...
I use A1200 with Apollo 1240/40, 32 Mb, IDE hd and a 1084 monitor (AGA only, no gfx board). Has anybody tried this OS with a similar config? Does it run properly? TIA for any help and advice

Yes, it is worth it. I run NetBSD 2.0 on my 060 A3000 and NetBSD 1.6.2 on the A1200 030. The 1200 does not have AOS installed, makes it a nice UNIX box (although I wouldnt try X on AGA) ;-)

Stick out tongue

Well, I think it is time to pick an old HD from some friend of mine, to start making partitions I'm quite a newbie to UNIX-like OSes, that's why I'd like to test this thing first with my miggy!
