WinUAE backup for live A1200?

Ok, so i might be stupid, but since i used WinUAE to set up my system, i decided to make a backup, and further mods i could simply do to the hdf rather then writing to the CF over and over. So, i told WinUAE to make a hdf of the CF, that should get me both partitions. (It's currently working, 4GB seams to take a couple of minutes.) When i'm in need of using the backup, or if i made additions i want to transfer, i should be able to stick the hdf as mian drives, andboot WinUAE, quick format the CF's partitions, and use "copy CFDH0: DH0: all clone >NIL:" to get whats on the current hdf transfered, right? (That only covers the first partition tho... Has to be repeated for the second partition, and the drives altered.)

Perhaps i'm not the easiest to understand, but i tried to get the vital bits in, and leave the rest out. So, here comes my question. Did i miss anything. Is there a easier way to do this, that i just haven't thought of? I could easily make some sort of backup using a number of softwares, but this way i get to play with my current setup on WinUAE, without unpacking anything, and it's easy enough to make copies before i start hacking in to my backup. This all will probably be quite vital later on when i try and hack together whats needed to get my wireless network going on the miggy. Not that i'll ever use it for much, but i just happened to have the stuff laying around anyway... And who knows, i might end up doing as others i've seen here, post from the Amiga.

hi in a way yes

but it is easyier to make 2 folders on pc 1 for dh0 and 1 for dh1 and copy all files into each. then make a copy of them and use your second copy to play with.

to restore just copy back to cf

you shouldnt need to reformat cf

I thought of simply making directories, but i sort of figured that some file attributes gets messed up when / if the files are moved, or other-ways tampered with by windows. I sort of sadly turned away from this option, as it would have been easier to edit files from windows rather then from the Amiga interface, but then again, thats just coz i'm more used to windows, and i need to learn how to use the Amigas tools.

Quick-formating the CF is simply so i know there isn't old files i no longer use laying around. Since i'll over-write old files with the same one either way, it shouldn't make any difference when it comes to wear on the CF, and such. In the long run it might "save" me a few kb of space, or so was my theory.

Ever installed classicwb? You know how you create system.zip for installing that? Well, I use dopus and make backups by making system.lha from all contents of dh0:, then work.lha and tools.lha for following partitions. (I put the lha files simply to a pc folder).

Then I have a system.hdf that I made for originally installing classicwb. I boot from that and include for example an empty cf card and the backup folders... then its just a matter of leaving the pc and winuae to unlha the packages to cf partitions.

quite honestly, no. I only recently figured out how to use dopus for unpacking stuff, like WHDLoads, and i figure one of the other buttons does compression.

Nifty backup, but not really letting you "work" from the backup, and continue to tweak the system.

I'm guessing it's my inexperienced approach that does it. "Better safe then sorry" and all that, if you know what i mean? I keep reading about stuff not working coz peoplle did this or that to the map they installed a WinUAE system in, and it broke. Your advice is good advice, and if nothing else will be here for when the next guy wants to know how to do it.
