Action Replay III Cartridge

Hi . . .

I don't have a WinUAE problem, per se-- but I've been trying to locate an Action Replay III cartridge (or a copy of the ROMs) to try out with WinUAE.

There's one for sale on ebay right now, but it's located overseas, and I'm reluctant to purchase something from overseas. In addition, it looks like this thing only works in an A500-- is this right? My "real" Amiga is an A3000 (my adf maker!) so that would present a problem.

I don't have a real use for this cartridge-- I'm just "curious" (and I love to tinker with WinUAE). Does anyone (in the states) have one they'd part with? Can someone help me out?

Seems to me that most of these carts were designed for A500's but I think the action replay people actually put out an A2000 version ?!?

Not aware of any of these carts that would work on any other model.

Smile Action Replay 4 A2000

There is really a A2000 Version, and the best is that there is a AR3 Version 4 A2000 too.

It's not really relevant in this case, but there is also an AR for A1200 trapdoor slot - so A1200 owners need not feel left out... unless you want an accelerator

I know, I own THAT one in the picture Bought it new years ago - and no, it's not for sale But if someone can tell me how I'd love to dump it for everyone to use in WinUAE.

Rob - they come up every so often on eBay. I saw one go for around £15 GBP a few months ago...

The only downside with them is they take over your trapdoor slot, so you can't have any accelerator/ram in there... But saving to harddisk is cool

This thread provide hints...
Hidden Action Replay Features

However, Toni Wilen also said that the first 4 bytes are unreadable:
Undumped Amiga chips

Can't we use another monitor to read the first 4 bytes, and modify the dumped AR ROM image to match that?

More detail on how AR works...

the last link there is interesting.. it mentions something about a chip that monitors the motorola for writes to custom chip addresses..
makes me wonder how software monitors did the same for custom chip 'reading'..

Maybe ROM protection can be disabled with some variation of "may the force be with you" like with older versions?

From the screenshot two socketed (!) chips are the ROMs, two smaller chips behind the ROMs are the SRAM chips and other square chips are programmable logic chips.

It is impossible to read the contents of first 4 bytes without hardware modifications or hardware ROM reader.

Ok, I've got one of my spare A1200s out and I now have a working AR setup Tried looking in the 'Expansion Board Diagnostic...' but there is NOTHING listed there. So over to you Mr Wilen, perhaps?

For those of you who wonder what AR-A1200 looks like I took a screenshot. Sorry for the shit pic, but I did take it on my mobile phone from a VGA screen...

When you enter AR it always put a dump of the regs at the top. And then I've done a disassembly of the current address (just to put something else on the screen).

Here is a little query regarding ARIII.....

Mine was well used years ago to rip sounds, mods, graphics, etc, etc....

But what I used a lot was the SLOMO facility when testing my game Poker Mania. You remember that? That little black nob on the cartridge which slowed down games and allowed you to get past those tricky stages, like in Spatial Hyperdrive. heh heh

There were quite a few sub games in Poker Mania that required a lot of skill involving hitting the mouse button at the correct time. I used SLOMO to ensure that the program was in sync and correctly responded at the right time when the player hit the mouse button to ensure the game played fairly and accurately and to check some of those sub games could actually be completed.

Now the point I'm trying to make is.... can this option be accessed via certain keys when using WinUAE ARIII ROMS? Or is there another way just using WinUAE Properties?

Any answers/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
