CD32 support problem in WinUAE (0.8.22R7)

Is it only I who have this problem or did you experience something similar with your WinUAE (0.8.22R7) ?

- I just tried to start my preset CD32 config and not only WinUAE crashed but Windows as well! This is the first time I tried running CD32-configuration on WinUAE (0.8.22R7). The previous version that I used was R4. It had some problems showing complete screen details in some games (like Banshee) but starting the emulation itself was no problem.

After experimenting a bit, I relized that the problem is my extended CD-32 rom. The new WinUAE seems to crash every time I attach this rom. But as I wrote before - I was using the very same extended rom on R4 with no problems.

While waiting for you to reply on my question, I'm queueing on DK's server at #emuchina mIRC channel. Hopefully, the kickstart I want to download from there will solve my problem.

Do you have any opinion/experience with this problem?

I'm using real Amiga 1200 so this problem is unknown to me but when I want to run CD32 game I'm sing Akiko emulator. It's basically altered old WinUAE with some kind of additional shell.

Windows version?

Does it crash if all your CD ROM drives are empty? (startup-animation appears?)

Most likely another ASPI problem. I really hate ASPI..

btw, Akiko is not an emulator.. Search older posts for more information.

I know. It is not an emulator, it does not emulate any of CD32's special hardware features.

It is software that patches/fixes CD32 games to work without CD32 hardware. Included WinUAE patch is only for simple CD audio support.

Maybe, but authors of Akiko says it's emulator. At least we can easily run CD32 games.

Like I wrote, the whole WINDOWS crashes when I try to run the CD32 configuration, not only WinUAE. It happends as soon as I start the config.

Could somebody please here send an attachment of CD32 extended kickstart rom. Maybe there are different repacks of this rom and maybe this one in particular that I have doesn't work properly with new WinUAE for some reason.

ASPI (the only practical way for direct accessing CD ROM drives under Windows 9x) is the largest known problem for crashing whole Windows. Now you how why I really hate it

Hmm…I went down to R6 and my CD32 emulation worked this time.

So this problem is definitely a WinUAE R7 bug.
Hopefully, the developers will fix this in upcoming R8.

Ooops, I did not saw this post when I created the new thread "Why does cd32-extended rom make uae crash"...

=> I got the same problem here: except that it only crashes UAE and not the whole windows (I'm using XP)

It also crashes with R8...

(All my CD drives are empty when I run UAE...)

I haven't been using the cd32 feature of WinUAE myself but your problem does not seem to have anything to do with your rom (you said it worked with R4). Besides you shouldn't ask for kick roms here, you know that...
