Greetings, all,

I've got a couple of A4000's I've acquired that are both in need of some TLC. The audio circuits need to be recapped, the RTC circuits checked/fixed, and the 3640's checked and re-capped if needed.

I know Cosmos does this kind of work, and by all accounts does an amazing job, but I'm in the USA and he's in France, so I doubt it would be cost-effective to send the boards over to him. Is there anyone in North America who does this kind of work, and has done it for other EAB members?

Try googling Downtown amiga. They are in Quebec - (after last night's election, they may not be part of North America? The Sepratists have won

) I had him repair my 500 couple years ago. The site itself does not appear overly active, but hi did respond to my email. Joe at Software Hut has a contact as well when I was talking to him a couple years ago that will do repairs on Amigas. Hope this helps.

I can't believe the moderators of this forum care so little about keeping Amigas healthy that will not help.

It would be presumptuous of the moderators or anyone else to make recommendations without both personal experience of the service and the agreement of the provider, unless it were a commercial enterprise.

I don't mind looking at peoples computers and recapping but time is so hard to come by. Next year, i should have lots of time if i call it quits in my job, scary thought not having to get up in the mornings, i think we all need something to keep ourselves motivated. (Newcastle brown is doing it for me tomight, people will be happy to know i aint soldering anything tonite lol

Even from Canada ;-) , except that the few times I've tried to buy things from Canada, the shipping seemed almost as bad as it does across the ocean...

Hopefully I'm wrong about that, because I've got several Amigas and a shaky soldering hand.. :-(

We moderators are here to clean up the mess you beloved users make. Our job is not to answer every question posted to the board, or be some kind of help robots, but we sometimes engage in discussion if we have time.

If I don't remember the answer off the top of my head, I don't google it up on other peoples behalf. Especially Amiga repair services in USA are a bit of a grey area, since I'm located in Finland. I can personally recommend Amiga Center France, but that's not in USA so won't help the OP. :-P

WTF? How could anyone expect the European/UK moderators who run this site to recommend repair services in North America? There is a thread for this topic on Amiga.org and that's the good news. The bad news is that your choices are quite limited but there is a lot of information on the internet for DIY repairs.

I've never held a soldering iron, let along removed a surface-mount chip, nor reprogrammed a GAL....

In that case, I would suggest that you wait for kipper2k to announce that he has some free time to spend on this, however long that might take.

Look at my thread when you can see some extreme "makeover" when he worked on my A600:
My A600 20th year revamp!

Actually I just read your location is in USA and that might be a problem for you. If you are going to send the motherboard to Europe, send it to d0pefish, otherwise if you want someone in USA, you'll have to wait for someone else.

The Video Lab might be worth a try for repairs in the Midwest if Ed still does them. Ed has repaired and owned Amigas since the Video Toaster days. I doubt he would be as cheap as Amigakit but then the shipping would be a lot cheaper.
