Dodgy colour on CD32

I recently got an CD32, but it seems the red is missing in the display, other than that, the machine seems to run fine.

My friend's A1200 had a similar problem, but the colour on his A1200 was completely gone when you used the RF or composite outputs. The odd thing is the colour was fine via the RGB port. I tracked the problem down to some surface mounted resistors on the underside of the board. It wasn't worth fixing it since you need special equipment to desolder the little buggers! Unfortunately, even the RGB port doesn't display all the colours on the CD32, unlike my friend's A1200. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? It seems a shame to waste a working CD32 just because the red is missing from the display...

Did you check the cables? You could try using the S-Video port. If you can't use S-video, you can get get an adapter for RCA cables, just make sure the adapter has a terminator.

this is usually a cable/connector problem. if you're sure your cable is ok, then the faulty component is likely the RAMDAC which on Ami looks like a big, black resistor pack, usually adjacent to the Denise (or Lisa or Amber) chip.

I haven't tried the SVHS port yet, but I doubt it would make any difference, it's probably the RAMDAC or some other surface mounted component that's failed on the board. Either way it's virtually impossible to fix, but luckily CD32's are easy to get in the uk so I won't be too heartbroken about it!
Thanks guys.
