Remembering monitors....
Anyone remember the model numbers of the popular monitors used primarily for Amiga 500's back in 1989 through 1991 by any chance? I am trying to a good one on eBay....

I like (and still use) the old Philips CM8833 and CM8833 MKII... but the Commodore one's are probably still a better choice
I also have a decent Microvitec multisync monitor hooked upto my A1200

The 1084 is far more common than the 1081..

Thanks, Cosmic I never would have guessed. LOL
Thanks for all other responses. What about directly to an older color TV? Possible?

Just avoid using the modulator and RF cable as the picture quality is not so good.

Will the A500 hook up with a C64 1701 or 1702 monitor? Is it possible to use one monitor for both a C64 and A500 by using some sort of switching box (like the ones used to switch back and forth between Xbox, ps3, ETC)...?

Yes, depending on which outputs you're using, I had a 1084 that I used a C64 and an Amiga on, in the end just kept it primarily for testing purposes.

1701 and 1072 are s-video / composite only, so you won't be able to enjoy the glorious RGB output of the Amiga. :-)

Theres no point using the old Commodore monitors you just about need a magnifying glass to see them and they're all on their last legs.
A modern CRT TV with RGB SCART will give you an even better picture than a monitor, plus itll be far bigger to boot. |

Tubes degrade over time, very true, but every technology has its flaws and if people are happy to use old Commodore monitors, why can't they? |

There is absolutely no reason to use a shitty old Commodore monitor over a nice big SCART TV. I'm obviously not saying people can't use the monitors, but to be quite honest I think you'd have to be mad. There is plenty of reasons for using old musical instruments/equipment. |
