Small A1200 problems.
Hi,
After replacing a faulty capacitor in my A1200, it works again. However, there are still some problems. 1. The disk drive doesn't work. This means the A1200 goes to the boot screen when turned on, and after a reset it takes a while to boot from the HD. 2. The serial mouse sometimes stops working after a reset. 3. SID music files played back with Hippo player hang the machine (this really isn't a software issue). Is this also capacitor related, or is it something more serious? Note that the capacitor which I replaced is the one near the disk drive power connector. The original is an SMD 16V 47UF polarized electrolytic capacitor, and I replaced it with a non-SMD 63V one. Is this a problem (seems unlikely)? Could it be that the A1200 developed some non-capacitor releated problem because of the failed part? Any help/suggestions are appreciated

as long as the one that you replaced it with is 47 uF as well it should be fine.
The voltage is no problem at all, as long as it is equal or higher then the original one. Did you turn the new one the right way?

Yes, I did. I made sure it is, or the new cap will just break again

Polarized electrolytic capacitors have a plus leg and a minus leg (just like batteries have a plus and a minus). You have to connect them in the right way to avoid problems, such as the capacitor breaking down and the circuit that needs the capacitor not working properly.

If you should feel like replacing all of the caps, this is a good option. He's quite cheap and delivery is really fast.

However, I can easily buy them in a local shop (although they don't have SMD caps there, which doesn't matter, because I can't solder those properly anyway ), so I can replace the caps immediately.
