RoadKill

I downloaded RoadKill recently, and found that it worked quite well, despite being an AGA game.

However, there are a few minor things-

Before you get into an actual race, you are given a practice lap. On this lap, the game absolutely flies- it's so DAMN fast! But then get into the race proper, against other opponents, and it slows down big time. Is this an emulation problem, or a crack problem?

Also, your car appears fuzzy, almost transparent, and, when racing, you can actually pass through other cars! They swerve to ram you and get nothing but air! Is this another product of the crack (done by Paradox)?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks

I had exactly that crack at the time

I remember playing the cracked Roadkill (great game), and I had no problems at all. Guess it's an emu problem..

Red face

Tick the Sprite Collisions box in the Display menu!
Make sure you use WinUAE 0.8.16
though I do remember it working almost perfect in 0.8.14
forget 0.8.8 though.

I think I have an ECS version of that game somewhere.
If you like I can try to upload it to ADF Zone in a few days when I will be back from a short vacation

An ECS version of Roadkill 100% does not exist.

Well, it is very likely possible that it is in fact the AGA version, but in the filename it says Roadkill ECS.
Sadly I don't have no ECS nor AGA machine to try....

It surely is AGA.. the filename says bollocks mate. I know I have downloaded many of these stupid disks marked as ECS when an ECS version never existed! (Aladdin, for one. Found at the Dreamzone!)

Erm

Sorry to disappoint, the racing section is ECS and runs fine when the ECS chipset is selected (Or as fine as can do in WinUAE), it's just the tacked on eye candy that's AGA. (Title screen, etc.)

Screw me...

You mean I can play this game on my A600? I thought this was a straight port from the CD32 version

Hmmm, I can't even get RoadKill to run in the later versions of WinUae- such as 8.16, but I can get it to work with 8.8r7, only with the bugs above.

And 8.8 doesn't have a sprite collisions option, so could it be a crack thing?

Akira

@ Akira

It IS a straight port from CD32, but as I found to my peril when I brought a CD32 (When they first came out) a lot of games are nothing more than ECS with the AGA eye candy stuck on

I was so p'd off a year later I sold it and brought ....... Akira you know what I brought

@ Muzkat

I have no problems running the game in the latest WinUAE, where does it loading (After or can't you get past the cracktro)

Use these config settings:
  1. Kickstart 3.*
  2. 2 meg Chipmem
  3. 8 meg Fastmem (Doesn't matter but it's what I use)
  4. 68020 cpu with Fastest possible, but maintain timings selected
  5. AGA chipset
  6. Sound 100%
Everything else doesn't really matter set them to what ever you like.

Roadkill CD32 and Roadkill AGA (Disk version) are different. The game is the same, but

On the AGA version, you are given the option to select 1 of 6 (?) cars. When you select it, a voice says the car name and then continues

On the CD32 version, you are given the option to select 1 of 6 (?) cars. When you select it, you are taken to a full screen graphic of that car, then you confirm your selection. You hear the voice then it continues

So. It's not a straight port , but close enough. Just felt like clarifying that...

btw - This game still rocks. I pulled out the CD32 one the other day and had alot of fun.

Hey, thanx Ian. It works fine now

Still, the sprite collisions are a little inconsistent- even with the sprite collisions box toggled "on", the cars are sometimes solid, and sometimes they aren't. Sometimes the cars are solid for the first few levels, then become transparent afterwards.

I don't want to whinge, but it's no fun when you can't ram cars into the Killzones!!!
