@Hedeon: Yes.

DisL2Cache = 1 -> all works fine
DisL2Cache = 0 -> storage access exception

This is in Q3. All other progs I've tried are fine with DisL2Cache =0

Just for a laugh I copied Q3 over to a 330MHz BPPC system with Voodoo 3. It works about half the time (the other half throw WarpOS exceptions) but only runs at about 5 fps tops! Pretty close to getting the beers in between frames, Cowcat!

PS this system has 192Mb in it which is the absolute min. Less than 20 megs free when it's running.

Can't the BPPC support 256MB? OTOH 192MB should be enough if it's all on the BPPC. Maybe the low bandwidth between the Voodoo 3 and the BPPC is to blame?

I think 603e is the problem, it is quite weak comparing to 604e and G3. Anyway I will test the game on BPPC with Voodoo4 as well.

Some time ago, I tested Quake3 on my BPPC 330mhz with G-Rex and Voodoo3, and I had in demo four:
1. on MOS PuP 1.45-> 7.2 FPS
2. on AOS 4,1-> 4.5 FPS

Well in that case it's not low CPU to PCI bandwidth to blame. New idea, upgrade those 603e to 740.

Yeah... I encourage someone to try this. Hese or Stachu I think would by happy to give it a shot. I failed miserably mainly due to improper equipment. I think if it was properly soldered it would have worked.

Also while Cowcat's compiler is still hot, he could turn on Altivec which in theory Hedeon added library support for.

If you tell me what CPU should I look for (type, model, pins, socket) I know few people who can professionally change it.

740 is pin compatible with 603ev and uses little less voltage. Could be feasible however don' t know if the firmware could have an issue with that.

I don't want to say it will most definitely work without any additional changes, I know of at least one signal difference on G4 boards which we would assume needed to be flipped. What I'm saying is that I wouldn't recommend it unless someone doing the procedure was able and willing to do some additional troubleshooting in event of problems. I have a good piece of doc that shows the signal differences between 750, 7400 and 7410 if someone is interested in looking at it.

If it were as simple as dropping in a 740 in place of a 603e on BPPC card, wouldn't Phase 5 have done that?

Maybe those weren't available in that moment.

New one. If it works it's way way better than Star Wars 8.

-Basically fixes from newer ioquake3 source(s): Structures with unused code, duplicated or obsolete functions, etc, etc.

Changed a little bit some stuff here & there: For example, when parts are wrote as inlined functions, vbcc doesn't do that normally but in higher optimization levels. As a result lots of static functions are kept in every object file at the time of final link, even if they aren't needed by the object files.

Not sure if this has been answered, but I think Q3 is without software renderer so cannot be played on a Radeon card with OS3.
