Tritus - Full Version & Bootable (without having to use WB disk)

Heya guys,

...was taking a look at this game tonight in order to add to my WinUAE collection

Noticed that there are these disks in TOSEC:

a) Tritus v2.41 (1995)(Pearson, Davin)(SW)[cr HF][FFS].adf
b) Tritus v2.41 (1995)(Pearson, Davin)(SW)[h Digital Harem][WB].adf
c) Tritus v2.41 (1995)(Pearson, Davin)(SW-R)[WB].adf

a) and b) are not the full game but demos according to the readme file.
b) and c) require Workbench to be loaded first before starting the game.

...so, have now created a new disk "Tritus v2.41 (1995)(Pearson, Davin)(SW-R).adf", which is the full version and doesn't require Workbench in order to play.

Attached to this post for anyone else that wants it

Definitely best played competitively against your friends, the CPU players are just a bit too evil

There's three things that piss me off.
One, the computer players play exactly the same fricking game. It just shows how unfair it is when they both follow the same technique.
The second and probably more important point is that the level "design" can be annoying at best.
Third, is the fact that even if one brick has hit the top, bricks still "fall" if there's space in the sides. Just end the game, it's over already.

I still don't understand the game fully. What the hell is the deal with the Arkanoid thing? I'm just lost :P

Not a bad Tetris game! But far so good as Twintris, Power Tetris and Tetris Pro.

However, in the notes section in HOL you can read:

Quote:
Last known version: v2.43.
Registered version included bonus game, R3 (THE ART OF ROCKETRY) and R3 LEVEL EDITOR.
Full version donated to Aminet by author.
So you might want to use the newer Aminet release for your ADF

edit: tried the Aminet version. Not sure if this version really is 2.43? No info in game and readme says 2.41. It might be a typo in HOL.

It is not included in the game. It is standalone and can also be found on Aminet.

Wow, Tritus.... so many fond memories of this! Definitely one of the best, underated Amiga PD multiplayer gems of all times (imho)! I remember back in the days, every friend that got to play this with the company was instantly hooked up! We used to play hours and hours of Tritus matches, 3 to 8 players at times where we'd cycle turns (losing players replaced by new ones). Game was so freakin fun that even watching your friends battle over it was a real spectacle! Epic matches on the edge, unexpected overturns, triumphant victories.... pure gold!

@Akira: The game is oriented and optimised for a rather multiplayer experience and the single player mode is completely lackluster (especially if you have no idea what's going on). The game is a tetris clone in it's core but beyond that it hides under it's hood a ton of stuff and has it's own quirky ways. I'd recommend to go through the instructions (they pop up at the main menu screen) to get a hold of the many things you can do (or the other players can do to you).

The level design is completely random as far as I remember, there are numerous templates the game generates or uses. On top of that, with every new level, various parameters may change, f.e. blocks drop speed, reversed left-right movement, no "kill" bars e.t.c. All this randomness is quite nice in a competitive environment and you can always quit and start a new level if you don't like the current one. I have to admit though that it would be vastly better if there were options regarding all those things so you could tweak them yourself.

But heh, that's as far as I could complain about this game I guess

I like all that is happening within, there's potential for a modern Tetris there, stuff like what you get in the newest Tetris vs Puyo Puyo, it just feels a little misguided, but it's great that it was released back then! I'll have to give it more tries and maybe lure someone to play it with me.

I didn't get to see any instructions, game was just on the title screen and I didn't give it any time. Didn't explain too much I didn't know, but some clarification was good! I still feel the game tries to do too much. But it's a great concept and it's rather well executed and this is why I want to keep trying it.

There's a shareware demo of Tritus V2.43 on Aminet. The full game is there judging from the docs, but it just needs to be de-nagged to prevent the registration screen popping up periodically.

thx, i found it. can someone please make a working bootable floppy version out of it?
because i have to start it in a clean os3.1 setup, on os3.9 i get guru if i try to run it.
and obviously this game needs a hd .adf because it doesn't fit on dd .adf image file.
further all os <3.1 won't read such .adf file (made standard hd floppy using winuae).

what was the difference between tritus v2.41 and v2.43? anything new?

Just wait my friend; the title screen will disappear and then a few pages of text will be displayed

Thanks for the information ProfBong

Ok, I've now created an .ADF from this archive and have done the following:

... Renamed "Tritus_Demo" --> "Tritus".
... Renamed "Tritus_Demo.info" --> "Tritus.info".
... Renamed "Tritus_Demo.readme" --> "Tritus.readme".
... Renamed "Tritus_Demo.readme.info" --> "Tritus.readme.info".
... Removed any reference to demo in the "Tritus.readme.info" file.

Now all we need is for some kind coder / cracker to remove the following nagging registration screen from popping up periodically:

Sir Galahad, mushasi9, StingRay?

Ooops, I clearly missed this then. It was a quick skim through last night

It is the updated file though.

Edit: not that important but fixed, see file in post #15...
