Then don't buy it.

It's this simple guys (or gals), if you don't like or agree with the technical direction of the Apollo-Core or Vampire projects, feel free to ignore it.

But please, stop wading into every thread mentioning Apollo or Vampire and repeating your grievances. Every. Damned. Time.

There are a lot of opinions on the Vampire, over 2,000 the last time I checked.
In the form of expressing interest to buy on the Apollo page.

I could - but this has to go both ways. Why speaking about how great it is everywhere ? If you think it's great, get one and be fine with it. And stop annoying the others with that thing !

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but the Vampire accelerators is about the most exciting stuff happening in the Amiga scene in a long time and I am thoroughly enjoying the V2 in my A600.

Y'all need to stop bitching.

Nothing wrong with this. Just don't turn that enjoyment into blind faith.

It also shows how little actual substance there is in his bombastic albeit layman's postings.

Oh, and I do believe that the Amiga community wouldn't object to a 5 GHz 68k even if it was "crippled" by Gunnar's "terrible ISA decisions" which "painted him into a corner"...

perhaps gunnar simply follows the strategy he has taken part of implementing successfuly and therefor he sees fit for his core design. as far as its not been patented it is still an option, and since he has done it once he may do that again with a rewarding result. nothing prevents an alternative an potentially better design you could come up with.

The SAGA HDL will be open source anyways... then anyone can compare.

Blind faith in what they say. Criticism turned off and one-liner bowing down, that sort of things.
The design has its shortcomings and me and Matt just show 'em.

You see, if this accelerator was only plain shite for me, i just wouldn't care and let it die. But i see some wasted potential and don't like it.

Oddly enough, Power cpus are very good in floating-point performance but beaten by Xeon in pure integer. Yet still no fpu in Gunnar's cpu

But you have the point here. Indeed even though these ISA decisions are quite poor, they can't turn into more than just legacy to support (and wasted encoding space). And even I would get one if 5Ghz affordable 68k accelerators were made

This might seem like a strange request from the mods, but I understand where they are coming from.

Although you are correct in your logic, the problem is that the trolling happening on every Vampire/Apollo thread is being unstoppable, and this shows up as news in the Abime portal and that's kinda shitty.

What I would suggest, since the portal is getting news from this forum section , is to heavily moderate or not even allow comments/follow-ups in News section threads.

If people want to discuss about the hardware, they can go to the Hardware section.

Why don't go talk to Gunnar himself and try to have a civilized conversation about it? I don't know what good will come out of re-stating the mistakes he has made in every thread about upcoming features and whatnot.

I'm not saying you do, but it's been brought up by matthey and kev a couple of times, and it's always the same long rant.

I don't turn to blind faith regarding this piece of hardware, it's not perfect by any means, but preaching about the faults to the masses seems more like trying to sabotage the image of the Vampire rather than being constructive.

A real constructive discussion without personal attacks is welcomed. But it's not us that needs to be convinced, it's Gunnar that needs to be convinced.

This is just my opinion, and I don't mean to put gasoline on the fire. I just want to be able to read about progress for a piece of hardware that I enjoy using without it turning into a flamewar.

Regarding FPU, it doesn't seem that it's out of the question.

And I know it's not one sided, both sides need to relax.
