LWIN-L key trap

Last night I used an Amiga program that uses the (Left_Amiga-L) combination and *bam* Windows host machine locked and I need to retype password..

Changed from WinUAE beta to release: the same.
..so i've booted an old Windows XP virtual machine and tested here: WinUAE trap LWIN-L normally.

Whats going on? A Windows update that changed something?
Or I just remember incorrectly and on Windows7/10 the key trap don't work?

Cheers,
ross

AFAIK system hotkeys can't be disabled. (Without ugly ways that need admin privileges and I am not going to do that)

Ok.

Remapped LAMIGA also to host-RCTRL so I can use the combo.
I haven't found a better solution.

There are other untrappable system hotkeys in addition to LWIN-L?

Thanks ,
ross

Yes Win-L locking the screen is really annoying. You can stop that by using Group Policy Editor or RegEdit (google disable win+l lock), but that applies globally and there will no longer be a lock screen option in the Ctrl+Alt+Del menu.

It must be possible somehow since whatever VM software you used to run XP can prevent the host OS seeing Win+L.

They have their own custom drivers that handle it.

Is it possible without admin privileges to change the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableLockWorkstation?

If not, could the user use RegEdit to set permissions on that key so they can change it without admin permissions? WinUAE could then set it to 1 when mouse is captured, and back to 0 when mouse uncaptured.

No! No application should mess with global settings!

EDIT: because if program crashes or is force killed: wrong option stays active.

I'm not sure why that's a problem here though. The user would have to specifically grant themselves full control over that key using RegEdit. Then they'd have to enable the DisableLockWorkstation-changing feature in WinUAE. (And based on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry path, isn't this a per-user setting, not global as such?)

Global as in affects other applications. It is always wrong solution.

My solution for annoying windos crap on any pc i owned (basically, nuke it from the orbit):
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
 "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,5B,E0,00,00,5C,E0,00,00,00,00
It disables a bunch of keys I never asked for, in case anyone needs something like it. Saved lives of many keyboards because I would be using the sledge hammer method to disable them otherwise.
Search for 'registry scancode map' for details, and backup that key if you are gonna use it.
