The a1200 connectors are more of a cost headache and not really a problem to the actual design which is almost complete. It is running a little slower than we want but in all reality it is giving us a chance to play catchup on outstanding requests.

We expect a lot of orders to be completed by xmas.
And what will a vampire 1200 board cost? I might want one. But maybe I could resucitate my old a500.

The current Vampire works just like an old-fashioned accelerator combined with an RTG board. You could have all this 25 years ago, but the Vampire is just faster in all aspects. It doesn't 'take over' much of the Amiga - basically only the CPU. If/when they implement SAGA, then it could take over the ECS chips, although it would probably be possible to select whether to use ECS or SAGA (or they would run in parallel).

The planned standalone Vampire is of course a different matter. For this version, they obviously need to implement then entire Amiga chipset in the FPGA.

Great news. Looking forward to seeing the V500 become available for the masses.

@Kipper2k any idea when (approximately) the final design of the V1200 will be announced?

I don't know if the latest Vampire releases have still required the owner to send proof of their kickstart, but from what I've read people needed to have an official copy of 3.1.
My question is: If that requirement is still around by the time the V1200 is released, will we be able to provide a 3.x kickstart instead?

I hope this doesn't inspire another round of people complaining about the Vampire, I just want to know if I should buy a set of 3.1 ROMs in preparation.

It will cost less to buy the license for the Kickstart than the ROM in all likelihood.

The requirement to supply ROM images was only during the pre-order period - they now buy KS licenses for all boards they make and it is included in the price. I have not heard about any plans to upgrade the built-in KS to some 3.9 or the weird 3.X version.

Great, thanks for the info demolition. I tried reading through pages and pages of threads to see if that was the case, but never ran across it.
Even though my A1200 has 3.x instead of 3.1, I bet the Vampire will work fine.

The Vampire doesn't use the installed KS ROM at all - you don't even need to have any ROM chips installed so you might as well sell them or use in another non-Vampirized Amiga.

We have found a manufacturer to make the A1200 connectors!!! so the V1200 is all set!!!. (It is not in Germany)

More details later
... "More details later" is what I am asking now.

Edit: And we can never thank enough someone that makes this:

So far I have sent anywhere between 200-300 mails and made lot of phone calls with every person who had in his hands connector at least similar to what we need here. Searched over old newsgroups, tracked down people who owned Amiga shops 20 years ago, talked with every card edge manufacturer or reseller in the World. Even talked to Fujitsu directly.

I wish Vampire1200 can be made faster so that we can watch 720p youtube videos.

I suspect the the design of the board itself might not be the biggest hurdle. Seeing the V500 V2+ in action, I think most technical, issues are already solved. At least in theory.

The practical issue is probably the manufacturing part.
I seem to remember Gunnar saying the V500 V2+ will be produced in quantities of about 200 / month.
This tells me it's being manufactured by Majsta alone (and his pick and place machine). (Kipper2k is currently medically unable to solder.)

So considering the V600 backlog + all the waiting V500 orders.. Would it really be wise to release the V1200 too?
Unless production bottlenecks can be dealt with, the V1200 is probably not going to be released in parallel to 2 other products already struggling with demand.

The way I see it, the V1200 might as well wait and get the benefit of a more mature core + possibly drivers for the stuff that goes into the connection ports (WiFi module, etc)

Thanks a lot eXeler0, but I would like to have some input from time to time. As you've seen last update from Majsta on his site is from May 14 2016.

I've often wondered if demand played any part in which models of Amiga were supported. By this I mean is the A1200 version a tertiary priority for the Apollo team because the demand for an A1200 unit would be far too great for them to even begin to consider because they would have no chance of keeping up with the demand with their current manufacturing process?

I always thought A500 owners out numbered the 1200.
Is this not so?
