EAB/Lemon Super League 2016: Round 11 - Aladdin

EAB/Lemon Super League 2016: Round 11 - Aladdin

Starts: 00:01 September 4 Finishes: 23:59 September 24

Rules

Post a picture of your score here with the score written underneath. Enter as often as you like. Only scores achieved during the round's time frame count.

To get your score, you need to exclude the flight sequence score as it can be played endlessly (if you get that far). Take a screenshot at the end of the volcano level. If you get past the flight level, take a screenshot at the start of the lamp level. Your competition score is "Ending score" - "score at start of lamp level" + "score at end of volcano level". (Thanks Harry)

WHDLoad version MUST be played due to differences in score calculation - WHD divides the score by 10 so maximum cannot be reached.

No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. No continues/passwords allowed. If you suspect anyone of cheating please let us know in private - anyone found guilty will be banned for the entire season.

Remember, anyone can join in at any time. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Downloads

- HDF (Thanks to lifeschool)
- WHDLoad-installed

Extras

- Full rules and FAQ (incorporating the Hall of Fame)
- Results and Standings
- Lemon thread
- Live League Ladder

Just to clarify:

We can't play the ADF version due to being able to reach a maximum score. The WHD version is different as it divides it by 10 so you don't ever reach it.

I guess it's too big for a high density ADF so an HDF file would be needed I guess, if someone can put one together? I don't know how to do it.

I can't help but feel this game is going to be a bit of a pain but hopefully it will go smoothly. If it doesn't... I didn't vote for it

If you can not reach the end of the volcano level, submit your score as normally. That score counts then.

I will if I find someone who's taking one screenshot every second, because there are exactely 0.00 seconds to take a screenshot of your score after losing your last life.

Anyways, I don't want to bore you with my complaints. It will be Titan Quest for me this month instead of this game.

When on your last life you could take a screenshot for safety every now and then.

11688-9718+8220 = 10190
I died on the way to the palace (water section).

19222-10682+8295 = 16835

Completed the game. Nice game. I milked the available lives not by intend but because i needed so many tries to escape the lamp and beat the final boss, so there is still room for improvement for a player more skilled than me.

Hint: When near the final boss in the palace, make a screenshot, when you have beaten it you have only 2 seconds to make a screenshot of the level complete-screen.

With the scoring system, basically we just subtract the score you get in the flight level? is that right?

Hello there Graham,

WHDLoad is something that I've never used before...

...but thought I'd give this a crack for the benefit of the competition

Anyway, I've now created a 3MB .HDF file that auto-boots the WHDLoad version of "Aladdin [AGA]".

I've tested in WinUAE and all looks good to me.

In The Zone! for anyone that needs this

Not quite. Yes, subtract the flight level score, but then you need to add on the score you had just prior to the start of the flight level. See Harry's three screenshots above for a demonstration.

Hey Damien, thanks for kindly putting this together, it is appreciated! Lifeschool had in fact already created one (as I managed to edit into the original post, but then failed to mention in the thread whatsoever) but alternatives are certainly welcome too so many thanks - and hopefully you got some experience of WHDLoad that you found useful

That excludes the score accumulated in the flight level. So Ransom1122 is right too.

Another note: At the place shown in the volcano level, you have all the time to take a screenshot, the boulder will not roll that much uphill.

For people who havent played this game its quite confusing. Am i correct in thinking that if you finish the game you subtract the flight score from your total score?

Yes, and to achieve this just do as described. If you come that far, take the screenshot of the end of the volcano level, and the start of the lamp level, and your final screen later, and submit all three and calculate the score by final - lamp start + volcano end.

(When you do not reach the end of the volcano level, submit your score as single screen as normal.)

Some hints, as people seem to have problems with the cave level:
* You must shoot the statues holding a gem in order to remove barriers. They can be hit by apples only.
* You can shoot the 4 armed statues with apples if you shoot and quickly face away. Beware, they will shoot at you too in that moment. They need 2 hits.
* There is a tiny sweet spot at the boss where you can not get hit.
* You can avoid the final water-jumping sequence when you jump from the carpet to the right when it has reached its most top-right position.
* There is a hidden way to climb the mountain afterwards on its right side.

For the volcano level, good luck. There is no restart point in it. Buy as many lives as you can in the cave level before. ("Wish" is a continue with 3 lives.)

As to the flight sequence, there are 2 extra lives at start which are easy to get. Refill your lives with that. (Get the two and die, and repeat until your lives are full.)

I didn't understand the Cave of Wonders level. It looked like there was only one place to go - into the water, and that meant death.

As the caption in your screenshot says, you must hit the monkey statues, with apples.

@capehorn: I lost all my lives in the same way. I've since learnt that you have to throw apples at the statue that suits in between the spikes before the water. Once killed it creates a stepping stone n the water. I found this out too late.

To clarify the jump from the carpet in the cave level:
The jump from the carpet I meant is nearly at the overall top position, only 3-4 seconds after takeoff at the boss location.
