Which 8 consoles would you choose?

Ok, so I have some space related limitations in my man-cave. ;-)
In the console corner I have room for 8 consoles in a grid configuration. 2 columns, 4 rows.

For now I've chosen the following 6.
2 "slots" left, but too many consoles competing for the final 2 spots. (It's not entirely unthinkable to replace one of those 6 either). It should be said that the choice is somewhat related to the number of available games I have for each system.

The chosen one's, so far.
1. CD32
2. SNES
3. PS1
4. Dreamcast
5. PS2
6. Saturn

Contenders:
NES
Megadrive/Genesis
Master System
PC Engine (Hu Card only)
Xbox (the first one)
N64
NeoGeo CD

So which ones would you chose, and why? ;-)
Thanx

NES and N64...

Simply because I never owned the rest

I have some great memories of the NES; Punchout was one of my favourites and Ultimate Air Combat too.

N64... Well, Mario Kart and Golden Eye.. Simples

Not sure if this helps, but here is my retro-set up in my front room

MegaDrive, MegaCD, 32X (Region Free modded + EverDrive)
Sega Saturn (Chipped / Region Free modded)
PS1(Bios Modded & Chipped)
PS2(Chipped + Internal HDD)
PS3
Game Cube (Chipped)
XBox Original (Chipped / XBMC)
CD32
Panosonic 3DO
Sega Dream Cast (Bios modded)
HTC PC
X360

This lot is all hooked up to my 42" Plasma along side my Laser Disk Player (Lasers... they make everything COOL!)

Here is an early shot of it - https://postimg.org/image/w0gxzmsrx/

The stack is now black with a few more items and additional separation

I want to introduce a Wii, SNES and Possibly a 128k +2A/B Spectrum with Internal Hard Disk.

Why having a PS1 and a PS2 together? There are not enough incompatible PS1 games on the PS2 to keep both.

I do own both, but they are connected to different TVs on the house

From your options, I'd keep the Mega Drive and the NES, the best libraries.

But it depends of what games you have for those systems and all

I'd say get a Xbox, because it's a fine base for emulation. I guess you're not very interested in this feature, though. If that's the case, PC-Engine and Megadrive.

Haha, to be clear, I have many, many more but this is kind of.. "Which 8 should I keep easily accessible.. " I can't stack any more of them without sacrificing something.. (number of power outlets, scart connector slots, cables etc).
(Then there's the PS3 in the living room (soon to be a PS4 Neo) and the Xbox360 behind my main PC.)
I'm leaning towards adding the NES, Megadrive and PC Engine, while removing the Dreamcast or the PS2.

I'd really consider adding a PC-Engine to your list, probably at the expense of the PS1. Mainly because it has some really nice ports of arcade shoot em ups and because the PS1 is almost 100% emulated by the PS2 anyway.

I might also exchange the Saturn for the Megadrive because I feel the '32 bit consoles' where best done by the Playstation and the 16 bit Sega machine is really rather nice.

Keep the ones that are hard to emulate. Like CD32. Saturn. N64. X360. 3DO. Dreamcast. Xbox1.

Ps3 can run ps1 & ps2 easily.

All the rest can be easily emulated.

Easy emulated consoles can be done on one raspberry pie device.

Its easy to have multiple consoles but then space is an issue and like you said cords controllers etc etc

I would go for NES + PC-Engine.
NES because all your other consoles are a bit too 'recent'
PC-Engine because it has a few great games which are not available on any of the other consoles in your list.
But as various people pointed out, you can make space for a 3rd console by using PS2 to emulate PS1 (or PS3 to do both) then you can decide over N64 or Neo-Geo CD for that extra slot!

N64 - because there were so many amazing genre defining games on that platform and the controller kicked butt.

Xbox - as others said emulation and XBMC

I'm surprised to not find any mention of 2 of the consoles that were the spiritual ancestors of the Amiga - the Atari 2600 and/or the Atari XEGS... Some great fund games on those... Now I feel old, hahaha

Yeah hardware was taken out early in the ps3 era. Sonys way of making more money by backwards compatible digital purchases. Which was crap. Because now any modded ps3 can play any ps1 games and 99% of ps2 games. All you need is aldostools.

Also convert your component to hdmi adaptor for xbox 1 and your set. Xbox1 has brilliant amiga emulation with game video previews as a launcher thanks to madmab/emuextras.

Based on mere nostalgia only:

1) Sony Playstation (probably the most revolutionary console of all time)
2) Nintendo Entertainment System (caused the videogame market to re-flourish and had a huge acceptance rate)
3) SEGA MegaDrive (it was the most widespread 16bit console in Portugal and I love the design)
4) Atari 2600 (the console that started it all)
5) NEC PC-Engine (the best 8bit gaming machine ever built giving some of its 16bit rivals a run for their money)

Personally I have the PS1, the NES (clone), the PC-Engine (actually a PAL Turbografx) and the Atari 2600 (clone). I'm still missing the MegaDrive (the first gen is the prettiest). If I could get my hands on an original Atari 2600 for a fair price, I would get it as well. As consoles go I also have a PS2, a GameBoy Color, a GameBoy Advance SP and a PSP (2000). I'm more of a computer guy, though...

I'd say Mega Drive since it can also play Master System-games with the Power Base Converter, so it's basically 2 great consoles in one!

Then I'd go for either the PC-Engine or NES depending on what games you have. Both have lots of really great games.

As already mentioned your missing the roots. So I'll add Atari 2600 and NES/SMS.
I always preferred SMS. I hate that NES scrolling glitch(horizontal/vertical mirroring) present in majority of games.
If you're going to replace some console, I'll go for PS1 or 2 or both yeah, I don't like them
Though I dont like any of those modernish consoles..

Thanx all for comments.
For the record, I have far more consoles that I can fit, but I hear some of u suggesting some older ones.

As for emulation.. no.. we don't emulate stuff in my house ;-)
Kind of defeats the purpose of feeling the real experience.

I do own a couple of Atari 2600s, so it could be done. The Junior takes very little place for sure and I have a couple of the more interesting games.

PS1 is a must IMO but ye PS2 might go away, though the slim version is really tiny.

In the end, it's a balance between a good mix of console generations, quality and uniqueness of games vs my available library.

Btw, no one mentioned the Atari Jaguar? Poor thing ;-)
