No, silly!

7-Zark-7 refers to his own idea, of creating Cannon Fodder: EAB Edition, as Akira has previously made a mockup screenshot of this 'game'.

Seriously now, methinks we should do a "Cannon Fodder" special. That way we can involve a large cast and we wont have to worry about any ideas as wed be ripping em!

Yeah, that's all well and good but who here can actually code the Amiga? It's a waste of time talking about it if no one here can actually code the thing. Antriad had you not slept for a week when you took that picture?
I have my own ideas for an EAB game featuring all your EAB favourites and Fred as well. I'm gonna write it for the PC though using OpenGL as I'm not too hot with the Amiga assembler yet. I'll tell you one thing about it. There will be lot's of shooting at your EAB favourites.

Idea

Start off nice and simple:

1). No multi scrolling
2). Nothing too complex
3). Initially cater for everyone.

Why not do a puzzle game?

Zoop on the PC/Megadrive/SNES was ok, as were a lot of puzzle games that didn't make it onto Amiga.

Come up with suitable ideas and graphics and music and I will code it for 68oxo Amigas.

So, now that the gauntlet has been laid....... time to start thinking!

an EAB game has gotta have EAB members as characters, a puzzle can would be difficult, maybe???

maybe a lemmings clone???

I agree with Galahad/FLT here, it should be something nice and simple and yet still feature an EAB 'cast'.
Lets keep the goals for this project realistic and it might actually happen.

How about people post their ideas for the genre in this thread and when we have a good amount we can post a poll to which it should be?

My initial vote goes for a very EABized Pacman remake. Although Im willing to change my mind if a better suggestion is made.

I remember ages ago I think Akira did a thread featuring Cannon Fodder ,with the CF background & redoing the sprites into EAB members,(A sort of "guess who" type thread). THAT would make for a great data disk. Although Fred can star as the "Predator" secretly lurking in the jungle bumping each of the EAB team off!
I DO remember that, and me and Akira even talked a little bit about doing it. I asked him if he could do the animations for the characters, and I would do the rest.

But he just doesn't have the time, and now I barely have the time to do it too.

I never mentioned it here because it would be a surprise.

Oh, and it would be a PC game, I can't code for Amiga.

I think this is an absolute lovely idea, just as long as the game is a splatter game so that I can kill Fred in different ways.

EAB or wot

the original thread said amiga game not ...... PC.... , maybe with a little patience and a feasable deadline , say 3o days for a simple 1st level side / vertical scrolling amos demo would even without music & effects be possible, it shouldn,t really matter if the demo graphics are not perfect but surly we can do better than an obvious clone of cannon fodder or am I dreaming ..

Reasoning

Plenty of you guys have ideas, and with the exception of HOL, not all of them come to fruition!

this isnt a criticism, just an observation.

A puzzle game is relatively simple to produce, can be turned around quickly, and will keep peoples motivation up as they can see something happening. A multi scrolling game is not a 'quick' job!

Once the puzzle game is done, that might encourage more ideas, and hopefully the will to continue.

The last thing I want to do is start some mammoth task that will never get finished.

At least with a simple a playable puzzle game (i.e. NOT Pacman!) we can turn it around quickly and maintain the interest.

Ever heard the phrase..... learn to walk before you run?

Keep it simple, then get more complex later.

Doubting anyone will play anything Java. Otherwise I could get to work on a quick and dirty puzzle game soon.

Or maybe I should just finish my Locomotion clone someday.
