Yep, they don't really, just talking in general terms since both a NiCd and NiMH battery would fit such a socket.

Oh good. Well in 6-8 years when the system isn't keeping time anymore there will probably be a better solution available.

I think the main argument for a coin cell battery is that you don't know where you or your Amiga is in 6–8 years. Commodore never intended for their products to be used for a longer time than that, and if people did, they would have replaced the battery once they saw that the clock no longer kept the time.

My Amigas have never suffered from battery leakage because they've been in more or less constant use since they were made. But when I receive a machine for repair, the actual cause of damage is that the machine has been left to rot for years.

Which ClassicWB version works best on the 3000? Or can I use any of the non-PPC versions with reduced colors? Do any actually require AGA?
