Emerald Mines-type with white smiley face

Man, I don't even know how to start with explaining what I remember of this game.

It was an Emerald Mines kinda game, featuring the same kind of physics where clearing the dirt out from under a rock would cause it to fall. You played as-- from what I can remember-- a white smiley face, or a small octagonal face. It possibly had a red or yellow outline.

I just remember it was that same kind of puzzle game where you had to figure out how to pass under all of the rocks without getting yourself stuck or killed. I don't remember what items you had to collect, or even if that was the purpose of the game. I just remember being very thankful that I had a big chunky arcade-style joystick with big yellow diagonal arrows so that I knew without a doubt I could make flawless diagonal moves (as that was key in certain levels of the game).

It annoys me that I can't really think of any other details to make it easier to figure out which game I'm thinking of. I don't know if the game was PD or what, but I definitely played this on my original A500 back in the day.

Oddly, it doesn't appear to be any of these games, or any of the clones on HoL.

I'm starting to think that my vague memories of a game from 20 years ago are possibly flawed and that maybe it is a game listed here, or maybe it wasn't a Boulderdash type game at all and I'm way off track. I don't even remember it being a particularly good game, I just randomly remembered it and now it's bugging me.

Might have to try and find my old list of games and see if any titles stand out.

Try Roll-Out http://hol.abime.net/4997/screenshot which is closer to Sokoban.

Interesting! But unfortunately not it. I definitely remember it being Boulderdash-esque in that it was about making sure you moved in such a way that things wouldn't fall in your head.

I also remember the graphics being much less sophisticated than all of the games mentioned so far. The sprite for the player character was much smaller (more akin to the static smiley faces on this forum, rather than a large sprite with animations and shading, etc.). Maybe it was one of those games that was on a disk with 6 other games and is just unusually obscure.

I'm starting to feel bad about saying this, but nope that's not it either. I'm almost 100% sure the face was small, white, and octagonal / squareish.

2) describing the game so badly that no one can guess it (possible)

3) having false memories, and the game I think I'm remembering doesn't exist / doesn't look the way I remember (probable)

The only thing I can think is that maybe it was one of those disks with like 4 games on it and it was game #4 that no one ever played.

I seem to remember the graphics being fairly simple. Very straight-forward-- no shading or fancy background, animation or anything else. This is what makes me think that it might be a bit obscure.

You know that we all want you to find this game Mister Octopus

There's nothing worse that remembering a game and not being able to track it down

Focusing on what you have said above; I've looked through "TOSEC [03-01-2016]" --> "Compilations" --> "Games (TOSEC-v2014-10-30_CM)":

These files may have the game you're after (and there were others but I don't think they were related):

... ACU & DNS & Rage - Games Compilation Disk - Popman & Mindfighter & Scrabble (19xx)(ACU - DNS - Rage)[v BGS9].adf
... Advanced Fruit Simulator & Yolanda & Fals Bike & Tiny Ball! (19xx)(Switch).zip
... Amiga Games 9 - Missile & Cosmo & Defender & Wacky Wabbits & ShootOut & Train (19xx)(-)(PD).adf
... Astronut - Obliterator & Back to the Future Part II & Battel Duel & Orbit (1990)(Valhalla).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Booly & Phalanx & Cave Runner & Harp & Plait & Queens (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Bullfrogger & Head Over Heels & Titanic Blinky & Alien Attack & Pools Prediction (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Cap'n Carnage & China Challenge II & Mad Factory & Drol & Automat & Jumper (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Cubix & Amiga Cross-Fire & Fast Eddie's & Slime & Squarestone (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Flob & Metagalactic Llamas & Sirius 7 & XFire (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Missile Command & Rox & Blockit & Oribit 2000 (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Monster Business & Worlds at War & Deluxe Monopoly & Claude's Runner (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Pick'n Pile & Silver Eagle & Gazza II & Trix (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Poing '91 & PowerPong & Hemroids & Nebula (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Tee Off! & Jungle Jim & Kamikaze & Snoball in Hell & Logic Battle (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf
... Astronut of Valhalla - Krymini & Tomtespelet & Cowboy & Amiga TicTacToe (1990)(Valhalla).adf
... Captain Fizz & IK+ & Custodian & Caverns of Palle (19xx)(Dawks).adf
... IK+ & DNA Warrior & Pipeline & TrianGO (1989)(TFS)[v SystemZ v5.0].adf

I also think it's a good idea to throw in these ones which have less than 4 games but as since they are "Boulderdash" related:

... Astronut & Wise Man - 2 Boulderdash Collections & Block (1990)(Valhalla).adf
... Astronut & Wise Man - Alianator & Royal Boulderdash & Venus Invaders (19xx)(Astronut - Wise Man).adf

Well that's odd...

The file "Dizzy Lizzy (1991)(Happening Boiz)[v Liberator v5.01].zip" used to:

... exist in "Commodore_Amiga/TOSEC/Games/Emerald Mine (TOSEC-v2012-12-20_CM)"
... but it's no longer in "Commodore_Amiga/TOSEC/Games/Emerald Mine (TOSEC-v2015-12-20_CM)"...

TOSEC guys; has this moved to another category or something?

Anyway; just created a bootable floppy from the Aminet archive and this is now in The Zone!

Ah; it's now under "Commodore_Amiga/TOSEC/Games/Public Domain - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2015-12-28_CM)"

Anyway, the disk I've popped in The Zone! is clean and does not contain the "Liberator v5.01" virus.
