CrossDOS: How to deal with shorter filenames

So I managed to format a 720kb floppy and used WinUAE to copy all the files from the Paradox-cracked version of Ghosts 'n' Goblins which contains a heap of *.paradox files, a file called Ghosts'n'Goblins, and a file called system-configuration. I mounted PC0: and when I looked in its directory, I noticed that these file have been truncated. For the *.paradox files, these files consist of a bunch of gibberish for the filename and *.PAR for the extension, system-configuration has changed to a directory called SYSTEM~2, and god knows what else CrossDOS screwed up.

Is there a way to deal with this, or do I have to use a copy other than Paradox's?

Split the adf into files that fit on a 720k floppy and join it later on the Amiga. Search for splitz and joinz with google.

A dms archive of the disk, it might also fit into a 720k disk.

Filecopying games from bootable disk images is not a good idea.

The original CrossDOS uses the original MS-DOS 8.3 character filename limit. You can use Fat95 from Aminet instead, which will let you use longer filenames and extensions. Just put the Fat95 handler in L: and edit the PC0 mountlist to change the CrossDOS handler entry to the Fat95 handler.

Yep, that answers the direct question, but may not end up with a working result for what's being attempted here.

Also the commercial version CrossDos 7 gold supports long filenames, but there's not much point in tracking that down, since Fat95 doesn't cost anything.

LHA is also a useful tool as it can preserve all filenames and attributes and may even be able to squeeze all the contents into an archive smaller than 720 kB. Otherwise you can just split it into two archives.
