It's hard to say. Some people think they are worth a fortune, but the A500 is quite common in the UK. I picked up an A500+ (console only) for £25. Most are Pal versions. What TV standard does Aus use?

Good. How about scart. Do the TV's have scart? The reason I'm asking is if they do, then you can use RGB to Scart instead of the A520 TV module.

There are quite a few on e-bay but you would probably be better off using Amibay. (Amibay.com)

There's one here, you just need to negotiate whether he'll post to Aus and how much it would cost.

The power supply is 110/240v I believe.

If you can, get a A500 with KS1.2 built in. It can run many games that KS1.3 can't. But many of the A500's sold on eBay already have 1.3 built-in. The downside of 1.2 is that you cannot use external hard drives like A590 or GVP.

I prefer one with KS1.3 than KS1.2. Compatibility isn't an issue and the improvements are worth it. IMO, for a simple A500 as the one you describe, I wouldn't pay more than 40€. However, well kept and non-yellowed Amigas have been experiencing an increase in value and it's not rare to see such a simple config rated at about 120€ to sometimes even 200€. Adding the postage prices for Australia increases the costs even further. Amiga hardware is quite over-priced due to a "bubble effect" inflation mechanism triggered by the large surge in demand (probably caused by the fact that many early Amiga users are now reaching their mid-ages and succumbing to nostalgia). Predictions say that the prices may increase even further before they plummet once again. It's hard to predict when the Amiga market may plummet, so waiting around until it does may not be the best strategy. Good luck.

You can use external drives with a A500 with 1.2 installed, but I don't know how many you can have. A lot of members say you can use more than one, but if I attempt to hook up more than one to my system, every disk that I have fails to boot. I think it depends on what motherboard you have. Anyway, I don't feel the need to use more than one right now.

I've forgotten everything about the Amiga but correct me if I'm wrong. The A500 only has a DD drive and not a HD drive. As the Amiga will be mainly for dumping disks then I'll probably need a HD drive as well.

BTW, I love your location!

I thought i had seen A500's go on ebay here in Oz for around the au$100-$200 range in the past.

That would be your best bet to find one for a decent price!

prices vary for the a500 depending on the rev number. If i were you i would try to find at least a Rev6a so you have the option to easily have it modded to 1MB chipmem, this is important if you are thinking of adding an accelerator or something in the future.

I think a decent price for a rev6a A500 is about $75 - $100 USD based on its condition. the worst part is the damn shipping costs which have gone steadily up the last few years

What disks do you intend to dump? Practically no Amiga software was delivered on high density floppies, as only the A3000 & A4000 were sold with HD drives.

If you want to just dump all types of disks - not actually use the A500 to run software - it'd be much easier to get a Kryoflux setup and do it on a modern system. A bare bones A500 doesn't even have enough RAM to hold an image of one floppy disk in memory, and transferring the image to a PC or anywhere else is going to be a hassle.

I'm just going to dump some disk magazines at the moment.

I've already looked into the Kryoflux and the SuperCard Pro. They are overkill at this stage.

I don't mind it been a hassle to create the adf's, it's not like I'm going to be creating them 24/7.

Basically it come's down to what it is worth
to you..
My best example is I wanted a plus/4 but all the
one's I saw were to high in price for me then
the next day I found one on ebay boxed for
50 bucks I would have paid 125 for a system
like that...
