Notebook HDD

Hi peeps.

Not a problem but just a hardware question

I got ahold of a 6GIG notebook Harddisk (Toshiba)

can i put this in my A1200 ?, I know that the KS3.0 has issues and will probably only handle 4odd gig but will the A1200 accept it ?

Cheers.

Cant see why not, 1200's take IDE drives. As you say, keep the partitioning below 4GB.

I just wondered if the A1200 was picky about brand model.

I've used quantum and segate harddrives in my 1200 without a problem. I've always thought that if the harddrive is IDE there should be no problem. You can always plug it in and see if the HDtoolbox s/w detects the drive.

don't for get that due to commodore's infinite wisdom you can only go up to a 2 gig partition (unless you have 3.9 & bb2). the limit is 4gig but due to the way it's calculated the last 2 gig is negative so it overwrites the previous partition or fails

Ok, so I get this clear.

The drive will work, but I can only have a 2GIG partition. If i was to try and use 4 GIG, it would overwrite the first 2 GIG.

oh well, 2 GIG is better than 120MB.

I'll see what happens if I get this A3000, (See A3000 PSU Problem post).

Erm, no...

you can use 4 gig but each partition can't be over 1 gig (oops got it wrong first time)

What I meant was if you had 2 2 gig partitions, anything written to the second gig of the second partition would overwrite the first partition or you could try SmartFileSystem (I've been using it for 2 years+ now) then you can use the whole drive, if you have OS3.9 + BB2, then you can use the whole thing with FFS as well...

To be safe, best just to have 4x1Gb partitions...
