Transfer speed

I use pFTP to transfer files from my PC to my OS4 WinUAE. I notice a major slow down in transfer rate at about the 6MB mark (a large MP3). I tried it from the shell with wget and downloaded AISS from os4depot. Same thing. At about the 6MB mark it starts to drop in speed from 650K+/s down to 17K/s.

There is never an error so no logs attached.

I don't see how it can be emulation related, hardware emulation never sees any files, only ethernet frames. Unless slirp has some odd bug but it also shouldn't know nothing about transfer size either.

Check emulation memory usage (both Amiga and Windows side), perhaps it is a memory leak somewhere. Try PCI network card instead of A2065. (For example Mediator + RTL8029)

Unfortunately there is not much to do unless it can be duplicated in OS3.

I switched to the Mediator from Matay. Switched to RTL8029.

With SLIRP User Mode NAT it only made it to 3.5MB before started to slow down. It also slowed much quicker.

With SLIRP + Open ports it made it to 7.5MB before slow down, but slowed down slower, and stayed at a slightly higher speed at the end. (50K compared to 30K)

When start a second file, the speed loss happens sooner and speed drop is quicker.

I didn't notice any memory loss.

I will keep messing with it. It is better than it was.

On a hunch I moved my WinUAE files off my NAS box and onto main Windows SSD, it works as it should. My NAS must have been trying to mirror to the second drive while it was saving the transfer to the VHD, and trying to read the MP3 from same NAS, and was just bogging down.

Local SSD drive is the only acceptable target when measuring file transfer speed of some program
