Saying goodbye....for now!

well the time is fast approaching when I will be off the Internet for the next 12 months (social experiment). Im going to spend a lot of my time re-learning lots of Amiga things that have slipped from my brain with age;( These include programing (Amos was a fav of mine) Octamed, SCALA, DTP and Dpaint. I'll be playing with applications such as CanDo, Cinema4D,
and whatever else takes my fancy (thanks to TOSEC applications).
I'll also try to finish game's I never did back in the 90's like Soccer Kid, Flashback, Risky Woods and a dozen other games.

Be great to see what the Amiga scene will be like when I return

So Ta Ta for now and happy new year.
Fatboy.

I remember what it was like in the 80's and 90's when you couldn't get answers to computer questions that arose every day. I didn't like it. That is what I would miss.

totally agree dannyp1, i remember how many nights i spent to learn assembly language on the 6502 and 6510, its a wonder i didnt end up bald, but i learned it on my own.

now its just so easy to look up stuff you have a question about i just wish the internet was around when i got my first Amiga 1000 back in 1987 when i took up assembly on the 68000, talk about really struggling, i think thats why i am demented these days

course i miss the old bbs days. watching the bbs documentary makes me all sentimental.

Can your Amiga access the internet?
I’d be impressed if you can do it out of will, but don’t see the reasoning or virtue.

I read this as disconnecting from the social aspect of the internet such as facebook/twitter/blogs/forums/etc. etc. and not specifically pulling the plug on the internet entirely That would be quite counterproductive since most things are done digitally nowadays.

Staying off the Internet today is like throwing out the TV and telephone in the 90's, I'm not sure you can actually do it... but I've subscribed to this thread, I hope there will be an interesting update on Jan. 1 2017 on how it went.

Not just yet

Just to clarify this is a personal experiment to see if I can live for 12 months without the internet...as those of us of a certain age can remember life before the web

I think the net is great......just have to avoid all the pointless stuff out there!

I'll be back to report my efforts (and it WILL be an effort) and see if it is indeed possible to function in a modern society without relying on having internet access. Lets see how it goes

Won't work or causes much trouble - I've not visited my bank in over an year but done everything via net. And many official deliveries have gone into the net over here - tax returns, driving licenses, passports - whatever. Tough and laborious to do without internet.

Could not stop watching pr0n??

Just stop watching it, and you will have enough time to finish Flashback, Soccer Kid and many others....

It's not that difficult and you will find you're more at ease.

I remember a few years ago I went abroad with my family for two weeks and left my phone at home (my family thought I was mad - but I'm on holiday so why would I want to be fussed with the internet and things at home?). No internet access at all - enjoyed myself a lot more and you see the world in a whole different light. Good luck
