Exclamation Amiga & Ham Radio Net

Hi All,

I know quite a few of us here are also licenced amateur radio operators. A couple of us have started a group on Facebook to organise 'retro computing' nets on the radio over the upcoming holiday period and beyond.

Todays chat included included Amiga 1200/600s, The Lincolnshire Amiga Group meets, Workbench versions, Scalos, WHDLoad and failing PSUs (Amiga & BBC Micro). We also talked about last months Retro Revival event in the UK, in particular the consoles on display (Gamecube, Dreamcast, CD32 etc).

Future schedules will be posted via the Facebook group, complete with links to 'listen live'. We do also plan on recording the discussions for those who can't join/listen at the time.

The FB group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RetroHamNet

A few of us will also be active on ##amiga and ##hamradio (freenode). We hope you can join us

Probably no use over here in Oz, but I have been inspired and got this today.

da da daaa.....

I imagine these days you do digital work on VHF or above with the internet playing a part at the repeater end.
It’s been so long since I’ve owned any transceiver that I don’t know what happens other than SSTV on HF.
Still I need a license upgrade to use any digital mode, so I’ll work on that!

Hi All,

Things have been pretty sporadic over the holiday period, no set times or frequencies. Plus, HF hasn't been in the best of conditions.

For those not on Facebook, feel free to ping me on IRC. We can always coordinate there

xArtx: There are people doing digital SSTV and digital voice (FreeDV, DStar/AMBE?) over HF but the vast majority of traffic is still analogue voice and CW. We have people experimenting with relatively high speed data modes on VHF/UHF; I think Software Defined Radio has made it possible to easily grab huge chunks of bandwith. The old 1200/0600 baud packet network is still limping along though

1200/9600 packet is mostly VHF and above. I think there's still some 300 baud packet activity on HF, along with RTTY, PSK etc.
