Hello all
Me again with more problems!
Got my A508ide from kipper2k today
I tried fitting it tonight and got on fine (including soldering!) right up until trying to close the case of the a500+
Kipper supplied the unit with a adapter to move it further back in the case but when using the adapter the card fouls cap c307 as the card does not have enough clearance.
So I have tried the card in the other position on the adapter. This only raises the card and does not move it back in the case but the cpu then fouls the keyboard
Best I have managed is without the adapter but with the sort of riser thingy that came attached to the adapter that fits into the cpu slot. This has raised the card a bit but it's not the best fit in the cpu socket as the base of the card is now pressing against the kickstart rom. However the case does close but I suspect the card will work loose as it's in contact with both the back of the keyboard and the top of the kick rom.
Any one who has installed one of these got any ideas?
Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,
this is an issue with some boards, the best option although seeming a little drastic is ...
wiggle the cap until you break it off, and then solder a replacement laying it down, you wont need to remove the motherboard to resolder... just make sure you put the cap on in the correct orientation and just solder the legs to the pad on top of the motherboard, no need to remove the broken legs.
There is enough clearance from the rom unless you have a custom one i dont know about ?

hey kipper, figured you would be the best to ask, i am looking for a hard drive solution for my a1000, internal, perhaps uses sd. any ideas where or if they still make them?

I can't speak for kipper but I got mine from him this week. I think they work in an A1000 but with some mods see his webpages

Back on topic.
Thanks for the advice Brian. I'm not the best with a soldering iron (in fact I'm terrible). So the thought of changing a cap worries me!
I have ordered a couple of risers things from RS (
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/2677416/ ). I'm hoping that this will give me the clearance needed. I'll post back with my findings.
