Phones don't have them, smart phones have (relatively) powerful CPUs. Big difference. You can still buy non-smart phones. They allow you to make phone calls and send SMS messages (and maybe a calendar and Sudoku). Actual phones.

Smart phones should be seen as small, relatively powerful pocket computers with built-in phone functionality for people who want some computer and phone functionality in a small, highly portable device.

They're two different devices for people with different needs.

I'm sure it could work... Think about it, the exclusities of the ps4 but in the same time a computer !!! I said ps4 but you can read any others names.
The big problem is which OS ??
ps:Yes, perhaps there is no demand, but i'm sure if it was done they will have buyers. ;-)

Well they're not. They're seen as phones.

My computer architecture tutor on my University course went round the room asking everyone what they mainly used their computer for. My answer - making telephone calls. lol. I think he thought I meant Skype but I was just trying to be funny. I think it was lost on him a bit. Haha.

there are phones with quad core CPUs. "smart phones" is a proper subset of "phones". i don't see the point in arguing about this.

I agree with turrican a console style all in one machine would be a good idea. If Acube or A-eon where to build it like that in a price range like the consoles out now i think they would sell alot more ng amigas. Hell even my wife would have thought it was fun to have an console like that.

yes, me too. look at how much money Ouya managed to raise on kickstarter.

the direction i had in mind is something like a cross between a console and a HTPC.

I would have bought something like that. But not for the insane prices that the x1000 is selling for
Thats more than my car is worth.

I'm not arguing about anything. I only tried to explain why some phones have quad core CPUs

It's because they're running bloatwares, just like peecees. App programmers are lazy and the platform isn't exactly fun to code on.
Or it could be because silicon manufacturers have space to waste in their chips

well they generally run something like Java Virtual Machine, which speeds development i guess, but i gathered dual core CPUs in phones don't give that much advantage, they have to throttle back so much because of the thermals, or something.

I built this PC like 7 years ago, and it was fairly low-spec even then. It's still fine for general every day usage, although some websites now have so much javascript it slows everything to a crawl, and i get like 1fps when scrolling. Well i have some idea why, it's so they can dynamically resize for mobile phone screens. And you get pages with thumbnails, but they're actually huge images just shrank down in the HTML.

Still crazy, though. Everything is so inefficient.

This is why us coders stick on our miggies as long as we can, there we can do efficient things

silicon is cheaper than good developers. and you can predict the behaviour of silicon. IT recruitment is HARD. You can never know how good someone is before employing them.

It's also just plain fun (no nostalgia). Not that programming on the peecee can't be fun, but that's a different story.
