Screaming Wings......an oldie, but not a goodie!

I recently bought Screaming Wings for HOL purposes as it's an old game from 1987 that seems to be quite rare (in both original and budget release form). Unfortunately, in this case, rare = old dog turd that the likes of Tiertex would've been proud of!!!

Can't say I'd heard of Screaming Wings, let alone played it, until I came across it on Ebay. After booting up the game I was pleasantly surprised to find a 1942 clone, but when I started playing it all I wanted to do was punch out my Amiga!

Frankly, I've played SEUCK PD games on the C64 that are more enjoyable and entertaining than this. Worse still, it looks to be a piss-poor Atari ST port of the worst kind. Anyone else played this game?!

Maybe it was released in a rush as there is 'francias' on box instead of 'francais'.

Me too! Even the cover art of the Atari 8-bit version is better than the Amiga's.

Génération 4 should have given it a much lower percentage in their review then! Reading the ST review in ACE magazine, I forgot how laughable the speech on the Amiga version is. It must really make your ears bleed on the ST, though, if the ACE reviewer ragged on it!

That really does look like crap!

I would love to see John Gage do a youtube video review of it.

For a 1987 game, Screaming Wings doesn't so much look like crap as play like utter shite! Dodgy collision detection and a plane that moves across screen at snail pace makes for a frustratingly unfair, tough-as-nails slog if you want to get anywhere in the game.

Good thing this game was released at the end of '87 and not during '88 coz it would've looked, played 'n' sounded far, far worse next to the likes of Hybris, Xenon, Phantom Fighter and Katakis. Shoot'em-ups began to come of age on the Ami in '88 and then Cope-com really upped the ante again in '89 with Battle Squadron. Now that's one game that really blew my socks off and still does to this day!

Played this back in '89 and it was just awful.

But when saw Aliens a couple of years later i was quite surprised tho hear how they had lifted the [ Show youtube player ] and [ Show youtube player ] from Aliens.

Cool samples, but a crappy game.
