Dreamcast price in USA

Anyone has any idea of how easy would be to find a NEW Dreamcast in USA? And how much would cost?

I once heard DCs are being sold theere for US$50 .

I friend of mine is going to the USA, and I want to buy one of those cheap video-games. I know the PSone is costing US$ 50 and it's easy to find, and that would be an option, but I really want a Dreamcast.

Oh, and anyone has any idea if I would have trouble to make an american Dreamcast to work here in Brazil?

The dreamcast was being unloaded for $50 last year, finding anything dreamcast related in stores now is VERY hard (impossible to find the console itself).

Used equipment can be found on ebay, or maybe at www.babbages.com

Well, I can live with an used DC... thing is I don't want to buy in online stores because I would have to pay shipment and all, and this would make the thing more expensive.

As I have someone who's going to the USA, I just thought about him getting one for me.

Someone in other forum told me about this gamestop stores too. Are they any easy to find?

Just about every store or pawnshop that sells used video game equipment sells a Dreamcast. They usually run for about $40 with controllers.

I've been searching, and the cheapest 2nd hand Dreamcast I saw in USA stores costed 60 US$ . Which still is a lot cheaper than what I can get here. (An used DC will usually go for something like 100 US$)

Well, whatever... I already told the guy some places where he can find one, let's see if he's going to take the time to but it for me

Thx for the help, guys .

We told you at the Shmups forum... Gamestop, EB or Funcoland will do. I repeat myself: watch out for its condition. Stuff over there uses to be pretty well beaten up :P

Remember to take into account, in your final price, the price of the mod chip installation.

But it was exactly at Gamestop I saw, and it's exactly where I told him to go, I even got the adresses The guy is going to Orlando, and it seems like there's no Funcoland in Orlando.

Why do I need to mod my dreamcast? From what I know, there's this boot disk that let me boot any CDR.

Well SEGA made the last batch different so you have to change the setup to get cdr's to boot.. but it can still be done. I must have 200 dc games on cdr for that system, its very fun to play.

You don't need to mod your Dreamcast.

True there are newer models that won't taked burned discs, but they are extremely rare. (I think manufactured after October 2000 doesn't work, but the only "known" version that doesn't is the Sakura Wars special edition. Good luck finding one of those!)

The only thing you really need to worry about is your cd-burner, since over 50% of the cd-burners on the market cannot burn most bootable Dreamcast images.

Well, that's not a problem, I believe.

I have this friend, he has something like 300+ games of Dreamcast.. ALL in CDrs, and he's going to be my main source for games. So, he probably knows his way around

From what I have geekily read and played, I think the Dreamcast has the highest percentagee of high quality games I have ever seen on any system. Even more so than the Atari Jaguar.

Did the Jaguar have any good games at all?

There are quite a few good games for the DC and a few stinkers.
Anybody want to compare DC games lists let me know maybe we can trade a few.

They might have a few new units in japan, and a few new games are still being released there.

But yea, its a dead system.. too bad alot of great games got the axe when sega made the anouncement they were pulling out of consoles. I am sure 100 games were in development.

I am also getting a Sega Saturn from another guy (It has been like 2 or 3 months I've been trying to buy one)

I can tell a few games that I would like to have if I get this Dreamcast.

Ikaruga (Either the greatest shmup ever or the most overrated game ever .. anyway it's from Treasure, and I am yet to see a bad game from them.)
Bangaioh (Again , stuff from Treasure)
Crazy Taxi 1&2 (Fast, Furious and Fun.. never played 2 though)
Virtua Tennis 1&2 (Can Tennis be a fun sport? yes, it can )
Mars Matrix (Another shmup I've never played but I keep hearing about)
Power Stone (cool 3D fighting game, that takes real advantage of being in 3D)

Was Marvel Vs Capcom 2 published for the DC? If it was, that's other one I would like to have.

There are probably lots of other games I don't know.. I admit I don't know many DC games...

Have any of you (modded) DC owners tried the homebrew stuff available at places like DCEmulation.com?

I've been trying out things like Doom DC, Quake DC, original games, and a whole lot more! It's great!

I just play the original DC games and the console emulators. Quake is best plated on a PC

I dont think anybody said it's the best shooter ever except you But it IS the best Dreamcast shooter in existance, IMO.

You must, MUST get Jet Grind radio, Chu Chu Rocket and Sonic Adventure!

BAAAH, I am tired of reading people drool about Ikaruga in the shmups forum....

Oh yeah, Chu Chu Rocket! That's another one I really want to try out.

And Jet Grind Radio, heard only good things about it too.

Now I gave a quick go at Sonic Adventure, and I didn't like it too much at first, Mario 64 seemed to be a better 3D platformer. But I only played for like 10 minutes, so I can't judge it properly

Hey, now I regret posting this in the off-topic forum.. could we put it in the General Discussion or maybe in the Nostalgia & Memories ? (Well.. the Dreamcast is a dead system after all )

Hey I just grabbed a DC with 2 games (ChuChu and TimeStalkers), a controller and keyboard for 40 Euro

Just tested to go online (EAB looks awefull, but it works ) and played some SNES games with DreamSNES .... nice tool to play around with

Next thing I will test is QUAKE I + II

@MethodGit

You don´t need a modded DC to play homebrewn games/emus YOu can make SelfBoot Images without a problem

As long as it is an OLD DC model. New models can't read CDRs and need modding.

Now we could rename the thread to "Dreamcast Thread" or something

My friend did not get the Dreamcast... he said he wasn't sure if the dreamcasts he saw were in good condition or not, so he thought it was better to not buy it.

Damn...
