Amiga 3000 - A VR Pioneer

With VR being in the spotlight again after 20 or so years, it's good to remember that the very first publicly available VR systems were running on A3000 systems.

Good article about it all:

Yeah, I remember reading an article in Amiga Format back in the days about the A3000 being used in a VR setup.

Pretty sure, they had two of these machines at Play Expo Manchester last year. There were people loving it as if it were new technology.

Yeah I wonder if the software can be gotten, there's like 5 games.
The problem is this system drove some custom video hardware of which there's probably absolutely NO info out there at all. Unless anybody who developed would like to contribute in writing emulation for it, well, fat chance

I recall Exorex being fairly impressive, and 25 years of home VR entertainment being just around the corner, if we could play these classic games, that would be awesome, I think some allowed 4 machines to be networked?

Anyone remember the VR show that used to be on BBC2? I think it was hosted by Craig Charles, Cyber Zone? It might have used the same machines but with software developed specifically for the show.

Oh, NVM, after looking it up, Cyberzone didn't run on those machines, at least no headsets or pods to be seen.

Yep, there were huge queues for a go on them and If I had the time I'd have loved to queue up for a go. Such a shame to miss out!

I also remember seeing one at Barry Island in my home town back in the early 90's, just before commodore went bust.

I used to repair the VR systems at Dave and Busters in Atlanta when I worked at a Commodore dealer there (this was 1992-1995). They were A3000's with custom boards in them... It was AmigaDOS still, though.

There are arcade collectors with these machines in the UK.. Not sure how many of them are working, leaky batteries may have taken quite a few A3000s out.
