Darkmere and Dragonstone

These games look and play like each other. Both are published by core design in 1994 yet darkmere is said to be developed by zero hour. I wonder which one is older and if the developers, people who make the graphics and game design are the same.

@Burseg. Both of these games had been WIP'd & previewed by The One, & Darkmere was definitely the first of the two. However Darkmere's development was plagued by delays & from memory was virtually rewritten from scratch with a change in the lead programmers. I think it was the programmer in charge of the PC conversion whom eventually took over the Miggy version. Work on Darkmere (I think) started in 1992.

I just recall in the "where are you?" segment in The One, he referred to the original, ambitious game specs as being more with the A1200 in mind without the A1200 even existing & how they were expected to make it work on a standard A500/600.

With my magazines in storage at present,I'd again have to check to confirm this, but I "think" the GFX artist from Darkmere was also involved in DragonStone.

Dragonstone

was an Internal Core Design game. The programmer for that game was Paradroid/Flash Productions/Razor1911/Anarchy, who got the job after Dan Scott (Dan/Anarchy/Lemon.) reccomended him.

There is a slight difference between both: DragonStone's perspective is bizantine, Darkmere's is militar 30/30

Commonly known as isometric, 30 degrees of inclination on both sides of a square placed there. You also have military 45/45, or 30/60

Darkmere & Dragonstone are designed by Mark Jones. His (very well done) website 'The Dragons Eyrie' is one of my personal favs.

Dragonstone was originally called Darkstone, but Core decided that Dragonstone was a better title. I had intended it to be a follow-up to Darkmere, using the same engine and a similar style of graphics. It was to have involved Ebryn's son on a quest to find the source of the original dragon in Darkmere. But, as with most things, it was taken in a different direction and a japanese CRPG style viewpoint was implemented, and the game turned into something else. I tried very hard to keep a similar graphic style to that used in Darkmere but with the reduction in sprite size and the different viewpoint I don't think it was totally successfull.

Yes, as Mark Jones says on the site, Dragonstone was influenced from CE's gfx.

I'm not so sure about that. Amongst the "Stormlord team" there was a programmer by the name of Nick Jones. He did several C64 titles which I think included C64 cybernoid, Stormlord 1 & 2 (C64)the '64 version of Time Machine (Vivid Image), Smash TV (his final C64 game). The geme designer of the stormlord games Raff Cecco went on & assisted in the development of The First Samurai if I'm not mistaken, too.

yea, you are right, i assume: i did'nt specify "the second": cybernoyd 2; i checked it out on his site.
i used to know it as "exterminator" in a 2 titles compilation, "exterminator - factory 2", where factory 2 was chucky egg 2.
it came along with an amigan magazine.
maybe the italian "Amiga Byte"
