Super Stardust Ultra

Has anyone tried this new PS4 game from Bloodhouse/Housemarque. I'm just downloading it now as I'm a big fan of Super Stardust on the A1200. Can't wait to try it. I've not tried any of the recent remakes so this should be an interesting experience. I will report back.

Here is a review of the game. Seems to be a fairly straight port of Super Stardust HD on the PS3 so its got some bad reviews. Well I never played that version so this is new to me. Its also in 3D so I might try it out on my 3D TV later. Should be fun.

Wonder if this is another 'cash grab' like the Cinemaware 'milk it' franchise?

Haven't heard of this one but I was very disappointed with Super Stardust HD which is nothing like the original games. When your PS3 game is not as good as your A500 game there's something very, very wrong.

Yeah, I tend to agree having spent 9.99 on Super Stardust Ultra, it doesn't seem as much fun as the original Super Stardust. It has fantastic graphics and effects as you would expect but I preferred the more simplistic A1200 version. It just seems too busy. And what happened to the lovely tunnel sections and the level progression map? Have they been dropped or have I not got far enough yet? I'll try the 3D option out tonight and see what that's like.

Oh and I also previously purchased their other game on PS4, Resogun. That was my first PS4 game and its still awesome!

Have to disagree - admittedly Super Stardust HD is nothing like the Amiga original (and I bough both the ECS and the AGA version back in the day) but it's a really fun twin shooter and one of the games on my PS3 that I always go back to. Nice simple, old fashioned twitch gameplay - yes a bit busy at times but an enjoyable shooter on it's own merits (and it's quite a bit easier which is good for me as reflexes are not what they used to be).

I do wonder why the use of the Super Stardust name though - was it just to pull in us old Amiga users or a genuine attempt to continue the game?

Haven't seen or tried the PS4 version (although quite lilked the PSP version even though it lacked a second stick) as currently have not found a compelling reason to 'upgrade' to a PS4.

Pretty sure its mostly because the name is quite catchy.
