IP and retroports

Well, whether we like it or not seems there might be theoretical and legal IP problems with porting other obsolete platform games across, as happened to Hypoonios, whether might be Arcade to Amiga, arcade to c64, amiga to atari, etc.

I personally feel that since this is mostly an hobby environment where financial gain is limited or nonexistant, some kind of legal safe haven need to be built. Have no power to lobby it but i think this is an important cross-community issue, mean all retro devs should probably discuss on it: maybe even contact organizations like EFF or similar local ones.

No, i know we are not entitled to ports (or even remakes) we had not received during the platform commercial life, but there is this personal sense of disappointment on see the platform not fully exploited as should be.

Some opinions about?

Just write "Coded by Dr John Prince/Tiertex" in the credits and put an old date from the 1980s and you'll be fine. If the companies want to go after the programmer, they'll have to track down the Tiertex bafoons

There are plenty of unofficial games based on currently developed game IP that run into no problem. It really depends on a case by case scenario.

This is the best time to do Nintendo games though, as they have said they will be more lax with fan produced content and their IP, so if you make a game for a defunct platform I am pretty sure they'd have no problem in you using their brands and characters oin it.
