Portable screen for Amiga live

So eventually I wanna take my amiga and use it live but will need to get a portable screen to use with it. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to get and what to avoid?

I came across this ok eBay and thought it should work but wanted to make sure with you all first.

Believe me, while developing PT-1210, I have given this a lot of thought!

The short answer is: depends on what software you use.

The main problem is these little screens have incredibly poor dot pitch/definition, so most interfaces will look like absolute and utter garbage.

First off: you do NOT want something as small as the one you linked to. You won't be able to see anything there. Unless you use software with proper readability on small screens or you don't need the screen much, go bigger. If space is really that much of an issue, try your luck with that tiny one.

I have a screen like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321644132551

The size is perfect (7" @ 16:9) and for my needs, which revolve around PT-1210, it's perfect. I also have optimized PT-1210 for a screen of this type so, yeah, best choice if you use that.

Protracker or Octamed will have all garbly fonts. I know I tried them before. A command line will be hard to read. Deluxe Paint is shit with it. The resolution is absolutely dismal.

Now, if you are going to use Protracker or something not optimized for small screens I can recommend as your best bet a PSOne screen.

The resolution is really good, the aspect ratio is right (4:3) and if you can be arsed to modify it, you can even input RGB for a perfectly crisp image. I used one with composite video and it was good enough! all you need is one of those Sony miniplug to 3 RCA A/V cables and you're ready to go.

In brief, in my opinion, your real options I think would be something like what I linked above or a PSOne screen. Anything smaller is unreadable and anything bigger will probably be cumbersome to carry around.

I hope this helped!

I have one of them :

But if I had a little more money - I'd have gone for a bigger one.

Nobby, the one you have looks bigger than mine. Screen size might be about the same but the frame around yours looks a lot thicker.

Here's a size comparison on mine:

It's only 4.3 inch (diagonally)

It's just closer to the Camera than the 1200

It only cost 9.58 and the 7 inchers about 15
I wish I could Part X it for a bigger one

Upon reading your question the thought that popped to mind was that it would be nice to use a tablet screen for that purpose: iPads and many Android screens are way better than needed.

The iPad connector is fast enough to transmit video and read/write USB2 so technically that should be doable. I assume that many Android tablets could do so too. But now getting access to that hardware is another issue.

It's possible to use the iPad as a second monitor (via WiFi) so that would be another option but would require some hardware to transform the video output of the miggy and stream it.

But in any case these suggestions are the complete opposite of cheap since they require pretty expensive tablets to begin with.

I use one like this. Haven't got the exact model number on me right now but it's from DealExtreme.

A different approach perhaps notebook with video capture capabilities (please verify latency)?

Then you gotta drag a laptop with the Amigas, rather cumbersome.
As I said, my suggestions come from actual use of Amigas in the way Trapscallin meant to use them. Home use is irrelevant.

Bought a 7 incher --- arrived today

Next to my old one for size comparison:

Only problem is --- I get "No Signal" through AV2
and AV1 requires a Gender Changer

Whenever you get a chance, if you have good macro, take a ic of how a workbench screen looks on the small one.

I don't have a macro (pics above a bit blurred)

The bigger one is obviously more readable (below)

Though not as sharp as the Ship in a Bottle one ?

I know the bigger one because I have it, was interested in the tiny one, but your lack of macro makes it impossible to actually see dot pitch. Thanks anyway!

Does yours also have the Blue Wire
(attach to Reversing Light Circuit)
and none functioning AV2 ?

My nephew has a fancy camera with Zoom + Macro
I will ask to borrow it, or he can take the Pic
(he's a funny bugger)

Mine has blue wire yes, but AV2 works just fine. I have two inputs.
