DirectX installer

Hi Toni, i have a small problem, i have a windows 8.1 laptop and when running the new versions of your great emulator it directs me to the Microsoft website to download Direct X. I downloaded the web installer and when I run it, it comes up with an error saying I have a newer version installed and bombs out.

I just tried it on Windows 8.1 and it says "installed" if nothing is missing.

Then I deleted feature dll that winuae needs (d3dx9_43.dll) in system32 and it reinstalled it automatically.

Slightly related and probably 'unsupported' :-)

Is there a way to disable this message? I use WinUAE on WINE which works perfectly fine for me but i get that message every time WinUAE opens a screen which is slightly annoying

Switch Direct3D off in Misc panel. (and Wine surely should support D3D or no game would work!)

Hi guys,

I get the same message. I'm running WinUAE 3.0.0 on Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit). I have DirectX 11 installed (see attached dxdiag screen shot).

Under the WinUAE Miscellaneous menu I have "DirectDraw" selected as the graphics api (see 3rd attachment)...

Is there any way I can bypass/disable the message?

Cheers,

Mike.

You still don't have full DX9. Having DX10 or DX11 (or DX12) does not guarantee you have full DX9.

Message won't appear if you set DirectDraw before starting emulation.

But don't use directdraw! It is ancient.

Download and run the dx redistributable installer. (It also comes with most games because games also need full DX)

EDIT: hardware RTG emulation will require D3D. (and some other features).

Hi Toni,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried enabling DirectDraw, as you suggested, but still receive the same message.

I will be using Picasso IV emulation, so I will need Direct3D enabled - is that right?

Is this check a new feature of WinUAE 3.0.0, as I can't recall seeing it in earlier versions?

I guess I should try installing DirectX 9 (although I have the sneaking suspicion I'll be told I already have a newer version) as a last resort?

Cheers,

Mike.

Yes. Without it you would get horrible glitches. D3D is now forced because of this problem. DD is support is feature for old PCs only, it won't get any improvements.

Yes. It will install missing parts. It is not a last resort, it is exactly what you need to do. (Don't ask why, it is some weird Microsoft decision = why nearly all games need to include big dx redistributable..)
