I had a Sega Mega Drive and a Super Nintendo. Both were wicked but the SNES was better IMHO.

Never had a PCE but have played many games through emulation... The CD games are awesome.

I agree with spiff. The Neo-Geo should be in here and blows all the others in this thread out of the water

Hmmm, not sure. I never use WinISO...

Maybe try using your burnt CD with the best PCE emulator, MagicEngine http://www.magicengine.com/uk_index.html

... If the above works then you know it's probably an issue with Pcep 0.7 (highly likely as PSP emulation is still relatively new).
... If the above doesn't work then I would try burning the image again using different burning software. Alcohol120% is best.

Yes hardware wise it does but SNES is still the king when it comes to the games.
I would have loved some SNES alike RPG's for the Neo-Geo.
Neo-Geo is more or less just about (very short lived) beat'em ups and shoot'em ups, but then again it is an arcade system.

Guess it's really a matter of what type of games you like... Personally I don't really like RPGs but definitely love beat 'em ups / shoot 'em ups / platformers. For these types of games Neo-Geo rocks

Don't get me wrong though, SNES also had cool beat 'em ups / shoot 'em up / platformers. I love the SNES very much (hence my SNES DVD thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=22669)

...but if I was to choose which is a better console then Neo-Geo would win IMHO.

Yep, and the best 2D shoot'em ups are available for the PC-Engine/Turbo-Duo.

I had an Amiga, Snes and Megadrive.

I also had a MultiGame Hunter which could load SNES and Megadrive games via parallel port from the Amiga hard drive.

I remember in magazines the PCE games looked awesome, arcade-alike, and always had raving reviews... For me it was like a NeoGeo, although I never saw a PCE in flesh, or playing...

I do have a review of a Ghost & Goblins version where the PCE screenshots were virtually identical to the arcade one, while all others looked all inferior to the arcade version.

So I voted PCE.

games were always 35-50 quid I believe.

The quality of games on the SNES was far superior, the MegaDrive had loads of titles but 80% of them were either crap or bad arcade conversions (PSX anyone?)
The SNES wins out for me, always has a special place in my heart

Hahaha, sounds like a regular's table quote. The SNES has slightly better hardware specs, but 80 % of the Mega Drive games was crap? There are a lot of good games for this console, the brilliant Strider port or Aladdin are only two of them. I had the three consoles back in time, they all have their advantages & disadvantages.

I plumbed for the Megadrive,

As it was for me was in a time when consoles were (i would of considered) inferior to say my a12 or a600 at them time.. this little console seemed to bring back a coolness and well when mortal kombat was introduced... my life had gone for a few months....

the SNES was a far better technical machine with some better games, but alas consoles for me had managed to render themselfs back in to the pigoen hole of toys....

i noticed though there was no mention to 3DO wich i thought was an awsome bit of kit.. and personally the only way to play wing-commander 3, road rash etc.

here is some yummy technical specs for all you techno-geeks (me included)

Snes

PC Engine

3DO ( should of been featured =p)

Having owned all three of these consoles at one point, I would say the PC Engine is the best then Snes then Megadrive.

Oh this topic makes me wanna play MegaDrive and SNES games today! Sure SNES had its strong points like better graphics pallette (opposing to sometimes murky and depressing MD/Gen's presentation) and Mode-7 games. But on the other hand it didn't quite feature that "arcade" feeling Genesis was famous for.

Look at laughable renditions of Aladdin, Alien 3 and Outlander for SNES and compare them to MD/Gen's versions. As a result of Big N's anti-violence policy there was no games like Robocop vs Terminator, even Mortal Kombat had censored fatalities and green ooze instead on blood Although to do some justice I appreciate some SNES games like Batman Returns, Mario Kart, FZERO, Pilotwings.

As a matter of fact, there is a SNES version of Robocop VS Terminator, although they differ on various points:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/roboco...or/screenshots
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboCop...The_Terminator

It has been a while since last I played it, but it appeared as more fully featured (introduction/background story, more levels). On the other hand, it was less gory than the MegaDrive version.
In the end the MD version is the one I preferred, but you still might want to give a try to the SNES version.

As for the MK, the first one on SNES was indeed censored but starting with II it was no longer the case:

Although apparently the Japanese version of II still had some censoring :

Speaking of arcade feeling, I recently discovered Gain Ground and notably the MegaDrive version (although ofc I also recommend the arcade version):
http://hardcoregaming101.net/gainground/gainground.htm

Very enjoyable if you like "algorithm action" games .
Don't expect a fast-paced shooter/shoot'em up or a gauntlet clone (some reviewers on Youtube do so) but rather a shooter game with a sort of puzzle apsect.

While lurking around prototype/beta related forums, after reading about the Prince of Persia 2 MegaDrive prototype, I discovered the following page that lists most MD/Genesis games and their corresponding sound engines:

To be honest, both the SNES and Megadrive had some incredible games, but as I got a Megadrive first (with Sonic 2) I voted for that.

If it hasn't already been mentioned by someone, Urban Strike (sequel to Jungle Strike, and the third in the Strike series is also worth playing - though the on-foot sections are a bit crap ).
