@AmiGer
Swiv & Super Swiv fans might also be interested in checking this out:
http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=3122 : Swiv 3D (on Peecee)...
The Underdogs only recently added the download for this, so I can't vouch for it just yet..... but it did have a good review

@Burseg
Pehaps there are too many good premade ninja avatars available here....
Oops

Also heres a cheat file for Super Swiv, incase anyone wants permanent full power with ALL weapons.
That ZSNES cheat search is damn handy!

Ive played Swiv 3D, and its nothing like Swiv. It plays more like a poor version of Desert Strike in 3D, and I didnt like it too much.

HA.

I had a chance to try it out now. It's not that bad.

It's not too much like SWIV (apart from the jeep & heli) but if you liked Zeewolf I think you will enjoy it!

I say the SNES.

SNES
=====
Had the best graphics of the 3 as it could produce the most colours on screen (256) & the best scaling & rotation effects.
Also had best music produced by the cool sony spc700 sound chip set.
But had the slowest CPU (only 3.6MHZ) of the 3 consoles resulting in heavy slowdowns in some games, especially in Thunder Spirits, where as Thunder Force III on the Genesis was perfect. Rocket Night Adventures 2 on the SNES was as fast if not faster than the Genesis version though.
Some games on the SNES looked absolutely stunning compared to the Genesis & PCE.
(Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong Country, Axelay, etc...)

PCE
====
Not a true 16bit console as it had two 8-Bit CPUs at 3.6MHZ each & a 16-Bit GPU.
Technically had the 2nd best graphics as it could produce 256 colours on screen, but had a lower colour palette (512 colours) compared to the SNES 32000 colour palette, thus games didn't look as "Live" & "crisp" as they did on the SNES.
Not many games on the PCE utilized all 256 colours though. Few that I think they did were: Street Fighter II, Strip Fighter II, Parodius, After Burner & maybe even Magical Chase & Twin Bee, but not counting SuperGrafX games. Probably the two 8-bit CPUs & the 8K Main RAM was bottle necking the system.
Also Because of it's low Main RAM only 8K! Games were not as detailed as on the Genesis & SNES, sprites had less frames & less background layers.
The music was the worse of the 3 consoles as it could only produce 6 stereo channels.

Genesis
======
Was the fastest of the 3 as it had a 68000 CPU at 7.6MHZ
Had the worse graphics of the 3 consoles. Being able to produce only 64 colours on screen out of 512 colour palette, this was the systems “Achilles’ Heel”
Games were fairly detailed though with quite a few frames of animation for the sprites & backgrounds.
Music was better than PCE but could not touch the SNES music.

Most games that were released on all 3 consoles generally looked quite worse on the Genesis compared to the PCE & SNES. (example Street Fighter II)

Also how many games on the PCE (Not SuperGrafX & DUO) actually utilized all 256 colours on screen?
The only ones I think they did are:

Street Fighter II
Strip Fighter II
Parodius
After Burner
& maybe even Magical Chase & Detana Twin Bee.

But I'm not sure...?

The PC Engine (if I remember well) produces 512 colours on screen, 256 colours for the sprites and 256 for the background.

And is that a problem? I think it pished all over the Genesis, and the fact that it was actually an 8Bit machine, speaks volumes about the grandiosity of the PCE. It's not fair to compare it to a SNES or Genesis, however, it can do pretty well when comparing it because it's an outstanding machine.

I don't give a heck about tech specs anyway, it's the game that counts, and IMO, the PCE had a much more interesting library among them all.

I'm shocked at how much you rate the Megadrive over the SNES... The words "there were more games out on the megadrive" just doesnt cut it for me, most were pants, and so were the selection for the SNES... but IMO- Theres DEFINATELY more QUALITY games out on the SNES, the ratio is far better (amount of games > quality)

I suppose there's been a shedload of good games for the megadrive, "Toejam and Earl", Roadrash series... basically its more of an arcade machine... but for lastability, defo the snes :-D RPGNESS! - and the snes had special chips embedded into the cartridges to make them do magical stuff :-D ... compare Megaman X-3 or Street Fighter Alpha technically to any Megadrive game, it aint gonna happen!

If the PCE had gone worldwide, ... probably that, its SPEEDY as F@*&!

My vote is for SNES, it's the only one I've played for more than ~10 minutes.
(a couple of my mates had them... the other 2 I've only played as emu's)

I remember playing Mortal Kombat (3 I think?), Street Fighter 2, and Secret of Mana... these ones were all good.
I didn't get to play Zelda until ZSNES & SNES9x... but it grabbed me more than Final Fantasy (whatever number it was) on Megadrive emu...

I knew a guy that bought a TG16 back when it came out. The store had a selection of at most 15 games and the thing locked up all the time. He ended up returning it for a SNES.

Neo-geo AES (I don't know option). Yes its a "16 bit console" as the others.

As for the listed options.. SNES, due to chrono trigger, Zelda III, and SF2.

With hindsight I just don't get why sega didn't release a home version of the "system 16b" arcade board..
http://www.system16.com/sega/hrdw_system16b.html
The specs are damn close to the megadrive/genesis.. and obviously sega had the technology.
They did the same thing with the Saturn, a capped STV, and then again with the dreamcast, crippled Naomi.

Megadrive/genesis always makes me think Atari GFX

The PC Engine was delivering about 1.5 MIPS which was impressive for the CPUs it was using. All this 8bit-16bit shit was the advertising campaign used by Sega in the States and it worked just fine. But I agree with Akira, the PCE was the console for hardcore gamers.

The SNES had a much larger & varied library of quality of games than the Genesis & PCE put together.
Also the SNES killed the Genesis in world-wide sales (double figure difference)
Games looked just so much better on the SNES compared to Genesis.
Just a few Examples:
CastlaVania 4 & X (SNES) looked better than CastleVania Blood lines (Genesis)
Super Turrican 1 & 2 Vs Mega Turrican
Super Contra III Vs Contra Hard Corps
Super Ghouls & Ghosts completely kills Genesis Ghouls & Ghosts.

Gunstar Heroes, Vectorman & Contra Hardcorps is nothing a SNES can’t handle.
Mega Man X looks much better than those.

Donkey Kong country looked much better than anything the 32X had, even without any special chips & Mega Man X3 looked as good on the SNES as it did on the Saturn & PSX.

Actually the Genesis did very poor sales in Japan compared to SNES & PCE.
SNES was 1st, PCE was 2nd & Genesis was 3rd very close to the NES. Even GB killed the Genesis in sales.

Also games that were released on both PCE & Genesis looked worse on the Genesis (fewer colours)
Example:
After Burner II
Daisenpu – Tiger Shark
Ninja Warriors
Raiden
Steet Fighter II (PCE) kills Genesis SF2 in the Graphics department!
Truxton
Twin Cobra

As for the PCE CD, well it killed the SEGA CD.

The PCE could display parallax scrolling backgrounds:
One example that comes to mind at the moment is Air Zonk.

But my opinion is that the PCE/Duo had fewer games worth owning than the SNES & Genesis.

The Genesis had some awesome games like:
Soic 1 & 2
Thunder Force III
Gynoug
Gaiares
Streets of Rage series
etc...

Eternal Champions for SEGA CD is supposed to use 256 colours on-screen. I doubt it as it still looks like shit & blocky.

Over all the SNES killed the Genesis in world-wide sales, not just Europe.
Even the N64 did better sales than Genesis.
The NES smoked the Genesis sales...
The AMIGA in amount/quality games.
Everything owned the Geny.

http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?category=159&

Best-selling consoles in video games history:

• Gameboy Series, Nintendo, 110million
• Playstation, Sony, 74million
• NES, Nintendo, 62million
• SNES, Nintendo, 49million
• N64, Nintendo, 28million
• Atari VCS, Atari, 26million
• Mega Drive, Sega, 23million
• Master System, Sega, 10million

Also compare TMNT (SNES) to the Genesis version (Both perspective & 1-on-1 beat em ups look much better on the SNES)

Not to mention the poor quality of the hardware of the genesis. If you tap the genesis just a little when a game cartridge is being played, the game will freeze.

This never happens on the SNES, which secures the cartridges with a plastic lock as soon as you press the power button.

So over all the SNES is the better console.
