Adding an internal CD/DVD drive to an A1200
I'm interested in doing this mod but would like to know if there are any limitations as to what drives are recommended for the A1200, Also I want it to be a slot loading drive - can anyone recommend what drives/interfaces I would need to use and possibly an install guide to accommodate an already installed CF-ide interface?
Also I see a lot of cheap USB external slot loading drives on ebay an wonder if they can be taken apart and converted to ide. |

I use a Panasonic slot loading DVD/RW. Works great, even have it setup to place CD32 games. The only problem is the drive sounds like a helicopter when spinning, so I used WolyCD prog to slow it down to 2x speeds, now machine is silent, . As for space, I just extended IDE cable and made my CF HDD stick out at the back in the middle. Heres my original thread, leant alot since those days, . http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=31228&page=3 |

Not necessarily. If the two devices play nicely together they can both go on the primary channel. Also, modern drives have very high impedance inputs so don't load the drivers on the motherboard as much, so reduce the old risk of damaging Gayle or other motherboard components. I've run two A1200s with a hard drive and CD drive for many years like that with no problems, one a laptop CD drive conversion like this, one a full-sized IDE CD drive.
