Make romable versions of common commands?

Hi!

I am making my own superkickstart.
I have added a lot of goodies to it now, soon done! =)

There is however some things that would make it rock even more.

Imagine having the most commonly used dos commands built in to the kickstart
(dir/makedir/copy/rename etc).

Is anyone up to hacking these?

No need to hack anything. They can be "wrapped" inside loader that adds them to dos.library resident command list. If they are not pure, they need slightly more complex loader. They can be even compressed and unpacked on demand if rom space is limited.

I'll have some code somewhere (used in aca500 flash resident commands) that should do what you want.

In that line of thought, it would be nice if ZShell 2.9 (freeware with sources in Aminet) could be added to a kickstart, as it has file completion, and the most common commands built in (it is about 36KB long).

I load KingCON resident as a module via RemApollo. So after a normal reset it is there. It is a good solution. Maybe it works also with ZShell? The advantage not puting everything (at least 3rd party stuff) into ROM is that you don`t have to care about ROM space and building one.

I am not sure what kind of solution is usable enough..

Best solution would be some kind of wrapper-program that collects all requested executables, result would be single rommable resident module. But it feels too boring task for me..

Another solution is assembly source (which already exists, sort of) that has space for command names and matching incbin "c:program name". But I don't think it makes any sense to non-coders..

Toni i worked om my custom kickstart last night and found some files and mails from a couple of years ago... and found out that i got a beta of the exact tool you mentioned above. It takes a lot of files and puts them in a big romable file.

I can't get it to work anymore though and I don't remember how i did get it to work and I can't get ahold of Doobrey who wrote the tool... what to do what to do...

I'm interested in this (and in your superKS, spot).
I want to build a new ROM for my 1200!

Akira I am sure we can work something out when I am done with it.
It sure needs some testing as well for starters in UAE i guess.

The tool was as far as I know not released in public so I am not confident in spreading it here in the open without his allowance.

I ordered a bunch of eproms last night and i have a burner already so physical roms will be made.

Toni emailed about his ROM tool and pointed me here, I have a ~500b CLI command that is CD+Dir+Viewer for any file (simple execute binary associated with extension or hunk code, with file as first param). It doesn't have autocomplete yet but nag a little when the time comes and make me have a look again.

This project is still slowly going forward and will also have new feature: compressed KS ROM module support. (It may need some tricks to inject ROM modules to resident list because exec is already initializing them but it should be possible)

KS ROM module code is mostly ready (of course totally untested). Program that creates ROM "container" module still needs to be done..
