my amiga mouse just stopped working finally, to replace it do I just need to buy any 9 PIN Serial mouse ? as commonly found on older PC systems ?
Or must be 9 PIN Amiga approved mouse? If any 9 PIN Serial PC mouse will do then should be easy. Thanks |

Serial PC Mice only work with a mouse adapter but that is far more expensive than a new Amiga Mouse

You should get a Punchinello Mk III mouse adapter from Power Computing (http://www.powerc.com).
With it, you can use any new PS/2 mouse, including optical ones. No more problems with old and sticky Amiga mice! |

Punchinello is an awesome piece of hardware but does not fit in A600's mouse port! www.powerc.com currently sells two black official amiga mice for ~10pounds and they are new (as opposed to second hand.)

There are plenty of tutorials that tell you how to modify PC serial mice to work as Amiga mice in /hard/hack on the Aminet.

Can you explain this a bit more in detail ? All Amiga mouse ports are the same 9-pin male sub-d connectors. Why should it fit into an A500's or A1200's and not into an A600's ? |

It doesn't physically fit. Check the picture. Unless the punchinello matches the height and width of the port, it doesnt fit thanks to the shape of the case. Lots of PC mice wouldn't fit because of this too, and other stuff like certain joysticks etc. cannot be put in there (like one of my Sega Genesis pads) |

100% fix for this problem is to obtain a short mouse/joystick extender that was made for an atari-st! anyone who knows about the old st's will know the mouse and joystick port's are hidden under the keyboard so you have to lift the thing up to plug stuff in - hence the short exstension leads... they brought the ports out into view! *lost count the amount of times i repaired atari's with dodgy joyports
or you could make one very easily by getting some 9pin d-sub ends with plastic covers and some 9core wire! an even easier way is to get some ribbon cable, strip it down to 9wires and fit on those 9pin idc type headers! no soldering at all then ![]() |

any one know if a USB opti mouse with USB/PS2 converter would work?
Would it still be hot-swappable? Coz I've got the MS USB opti job which comes with the USB/PS2 converter... |

I would think so m8! I have the same mouse but havent got the amiga adaptor device to test it out
I have used the ps2 adaptor for my mouse on a couple of pc's and it works 100% so i dont see any reason why the thing wont work with the punchinello (SP?) |

Just resurrecting this old thread - Are there any places to buy a mouse adapter these days? All the above links are gone now.
