Conspiracies and intrigue are entertaining
It's not that unlikely... somebody has also mentioned that there's music by Andrew Barnabas (Dens Design) in Putty Squad which could also be owned by Virgin. Or Putty Squad used TUME and System 3 didn't have a license:

^ Note that all of Twiddy's jump'n'runs seem to use TUME so it's likely that Putty Squad uses it too.

The source code is available here:
http://web.archive.org/web/200702020.../download.html

It may need some modifications to build for Amiga, though. But you can see that the Amiga code is still in there.

Had this response from System 3 after sending them an e-mail via their contact form.

Hi Craig, Thanks for your email and sorry for the delay in replying. We are just finishing the X360 version of Putty at the moment. However, the game is being released via XBLA for X360 rather than as retail version. This decision was made a fair while ago and therefore I am not sure why Game would have taken a pre-order for this version. Unfortunately, it is not possible to release it this side of Christmas and therefore it will not be available until January. Sorry about this but hopefully it will be worth the wait. Regards John.
Hopefully they'll be true to their word. I've already cancelled the preorder with game.

For the love of god, System 3 for me have now won the accolade of being the Mark 2 version of the 1993/1994 Commodore management team.

Mark Cale is the new Medhi Ali in my mind (and that in itself is a feat for anyone to achieve!)

What a load of bolox - I hope they realise just how much they've annoyed folk.

Well, todays the day. What's the betting that nothing actually comes of this? Would be nice though.

Given the intimate size of our hobby group, surely someone must know which Amiga community members Mr Hale has engaged?

Didn't AmigaFuture release previously unreleased games before? Well perhaps it was only In shadow of time(?).

Well this was unexpected! Who has the source now then?

Dear Amiga fans of Putty Squad

Further to our previous statement about Putty Squad for the Amiga, we’re pleased to bring you an update on where we are with the project.

We have provided the source code and mastering files to members of the Amiga community who are hard at work on them.

The objective is to produce an ADF file which will be available to download from our website this side of Christmas to to allow the game to be played on the Amiga 1200 or on Amiga emulators. We intend to allow the game to be written to a floppy disk so that people who still have a traditional old Amiga with floppy disk will also be able to enjoy the game.

We are doing everything that we can to make this happen but as you can appreciate it is not entirely in our control how quickly this is achieved. However, please be assured that our objective is to give the game back to the Amiga community, for free, as soon as possible.

Sincerely

John Twiddy
System 3

I still feel suspicious!
No one knows who in our community has the source code. I will not begin to get excited until I know who has it. I will be ecstatic when I have my .ADFs!

He gave this source code stuff to me (whatever that means), but I chucked it out with the trash. Was it important? :|

Whoever has it will be sworn to secrecy and will make themselves known on release.

The plan:

Make people buy the remake and keep the Amiga folks on their toes with promises.
Wait until enough (?) money is made.
Find a pathetic excuse (most likely blame it on the 'members of the community') why the Amiga version can't be released.

My 2 cent anyway.

I'm still suspicious too!

My money's on EAB's very own 'prowler' who'll be hard at work playing... I mean compiling the data.
